According to Clayton Cox, who was a meticulous researcher, and a well known authority on the Caudill family and author of "Appalachian Crossroads" (3 vol set dedicated to Caudills), Jeptha 'Jep" was born 4 feb 1889 and d. 23 may 1951 ... and was the son of Jeremiah P. Caudill and Nancy Campbell. Without going into a great deal of detail, I will outline the ancestry from there.
Jeremiah P. was the son of William J. 'Stiller Bill' Caudill and Nancy Dixon.
'Stiller Bill' was the son of William Caudill and Nancy Craft.
The last William Caudill mentioned was the son of James Caudill and Mary Adams
James was the son of James Caudill and Mary Yarborough
The lastt James mentioned was the son of Stephen Caudill and Mary Fields, both b. Scotland in the 1680s.

Back to Jep; Clayton has that he was married 3 times.
Jep md (1) on 24 apr 1907 at Magistrate T. A. Dixon's in Letcher Co, KY to Mary Jane Halcomb b. 28 jan 1887 Letcher Co, KY, d. 31 dec 1912, dau of Anderson Halcomb and Martha Caudill (Martha's ancestry in noted). They had issue;

Kay thank you so Much i never thought i would get any imfo on my grandmother she died during child birth in april 26 1959 in Bastesville indiana, and my grandfather lou passed in 1978 and the children of arine and lou didnt know anything of their mother. nora gamble is arnies stepmother and my gandfather married arnies half sister minnie caudill but i dont know to much about her either i know she married a leach, they had a son names richard , i thinks she was born in 1936 or 1935 in letcher , where can i get the the book on the caudills

Clayton Cox died in 1995; I am not sure if copies of "Appalachian Crossroads" are still available. Clayton also published the periodical, "The East Kentuckian" for several years. I believe it was purchased and is still in publication, therefore, someone must know if any of his materials are still available. I will let you know if I hear.
The library of Congress Cat. Card number is 77-74669, so must be on file there.
The books were published by; Gateway Press, 1001 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, MD 21202; They might know.
