Hi,

In 1872 there were unclaimed letters being held at the Brisbane GPO for a William Ninness of Copperfield which was a mining area near Clermont inland from Rockhampton. This may indicate that William Ninness came into Queensland at Rockhampton and made his way inland to Copperfield then up to Ravenswood.

Gerry

On 9th April 1884 William Ninness took over the horse & cattle brand 6OU from Herman Guska for a farm or run at Ravenswood, this was transferred from William to Thomas Cody on 14th April 1888.

Northern Miner Newspaper 15th December 1885 p3 has a Notice dated 11th December 1885 re the application to transfer the licence for the Silver King Hotel at The One Mile Silver King Mine from Robert Fulton to William Ninness, miner of The One Mile near Ravenswood. Mr William Ninness was married with 4 children and had not held a licence before.

William Ninness was still the Silver King Hotel licensee in 1887 at least.

Move to Stockholm near Charters Towers sometime after 1888.

The Northern Miner Newspaper 12th March 1892 on page 1 has a Notice which in short states that William Ninness a Boarding House Keeper of Stockholm near Charters Towers to apply for a Victualler's Licence what looks like to convert the boarding house to an Inn or Public House to be called the 'Stockholm Hotel' William Ninness was married with 6 children and had previously was the licensee of the 'Silver King Hotel' for 2 years near Ravenswood. The Notice was dated 11th March 1892.

Charters Towers by 1892.

In March 1892 William Ninness placed a Notice in the Northern Miner Newspaper saying that he was going to apply for a Victualler's Licence for his boarding house at Stockholm 4 miles from Charters Towers. The premises had previously been licensed for 12 months as the 'Stockholm Hotel' ( by someone else I assume)and William wanted to re-licence the place under the same name. William Ninness stated that he was married with 6 children and he had previously held the licence for the 'Silver King Hotel', Ravenswood for 2 years. The Notice was dated 11th March 1892.

The Northern Miner for 4th January 1894 on page 3 has a paragraph which states that at the Quarterly Licencing Meeting in Charters Towers that sat on 3rd January refused William Ninness's application to licence the 'Stockholm Hotel' on the grounds that "local option clause 3 was in force in the subdivision"

Hi,

From Trove.

Mar., 1905. William Ninnes, recently a gold miner of Charters Towers, QLD and 60 years old was not given permission to land at Wellington, N.Z. He arrived on board the "Waikaro", and under the N.Z. "Paupers Act", was considered to old to work and had less than 25 pounds in his possession.

He claimed to have a son, a draper and a daughter, a barmaid living in Wellington. He was sent back to Sydney on the same vessel and taken into care by the Salvation Army until his family in Queensland were notified.

Cheers,

Alan Mac.

6th April 1894 William Ninness was granted a Goldfields Homestead Lease No 4107 which was 5 acres at Stockholm. Typically the GH Leases were either 1/2 acres, 5 acres or 40 acres depending on how far out from Charters Towers the lease was located and there were tight conditions on improving the property with substantional fencing, residence etc once the lease was surveyed.

1895 Queensland State Electoral Roll has William Ninnes as residing at Stockholm. (note the single S in Ninness)

1900 Queensland State Electoral Roll has William Ninnes at the corner of Marion & Miner Streets Charters Towers.
