I finally discovered that my Cannady's did not come from MARS, as I had begun to think. My line that I can trace so far:

1. James Thomas Canady 15 SEP 1834-26 JUN 1926 m. Mary Lewis abt 1858 in Hickman County. Both died and are buried in Hickman County, Tennessee.
Children:
1. Alice Caroline Canady 16 AUG 1860-11 AUG 1938 m. William Anderson Hudspeth 4 SEP 1860 in Hickman County, TN. Had at least 9 children. Both died and are buried in Hickman County.
2. Amelia J Canady b abt 1861
3. Mary Canady b abt 1862
4. William Robert Cannady 12 SEP 1863-1938 m Ida Mae Hassell 16 SEP 1886 in Hickman County. Had children Walter, Melver, Mervin, William Porter, Elton Hall, Allen, Schley, John, Harden, Dana, Doyle and Hassell. Both died and are buried in Granite, Greer County, Oklahoma.William and Ida are my great grandparents.
5. James Madison Canady 13 May 1867-31 OCT 1930 died and buried in Hickman County, Tennessee.

I cannot determine where James was born or who his parents were. Is anyone else researching this line? Any help would be appreciated!

Alice Caroline Canady, daughter of James Thomas Canady was my great-grandmother. I have just started researching this family and would appreciate any information you have on James Thomas Canady. I only know of 6 children of Caroline Canady and William Hudspeth -- sons Tom and Lish, daughters Mero, Nell, Ira and Pearl (my grandmother).

Hello Peggy, my name is Kim Cannady. I am researching the first known Cannady (as of yet) by the name of Daniel B. Cannady b.1831 from Emanuel Co. GA. From the US Census,1820, there were 5 Cannadys: Edmond, Henry, John, Samuel and Soloman. Hopefully one of these will be identified as Daniel B's father. I did find a William Sr. Cannady from B.(?) Co. S. Carolina from the late 1700's.

Sorry about the first message. My fingers got a bit heavy on the mouse. As I was saying, that there was a William Cannady SR. from SC. I noticed there was one of your ancestors with the middle name of Madison. Daniel B.(1831) had a son by the name of Daniel Madison Cannady. Have you found out any more about your TN ancestors and where their line begins? I'd be interested to find out. It may be a long shot but, hey, at this stage of the game anything is worth a try. Right? I look forward to hearing from you. Please contact me at asudojo.kc@verizon.net.

Kim,

Have you come across a Rhoda Cannady who married William Chambers in Tennessee? This would be early 1800's.

Thanks,
Catherine

I did not find a Rhoda in TN. I did find a Rhoda Canady, D/O William Cannady, Married John Hennis Sept. 9 1787. According to the VA Gen. Soc. Quarterly 1982; the children of John and Rhoda Hennis were William, Patience, Benjamin and John. There are no records of any Male Chambers married into the Cannady Family. There are however 3 females, but of latter 1800's and 1900's, who married into a Cannady line. I hope this might help out in some way. Maybe there is a tie in due to the name Rhoda? Good Luck!

Sandra - in my family, Walter Cannady (b. 1887 in Hickman Co, TN) was the oldest of 13 children. Willie Mae Cannady Witherspoon (b 20 MAR 1911 in Greer Co, OK; d 3 APR 1986 in Riverside Co, CA) was number 12.

Can you provide any other information on your Walter or Willie Mae (dates, residence, etc) so I know where to look?
