We are looking for information on George Foland (b 1863 in Iowa) wife's name Nina. He was living in Waterville, Douglas Co., Washington in 1900. Some of their children were born in South Dakota - location unknown, and some were born in Washington state. We believe he was working at a sawmill in Pennington Co., South Dakota in 1880 at age 17. We do not know Nina's maiden name or where they got married. We do not know where they moved to after 1900.
There is a possibility that George is related to Henry Foland and wife Malissa who are living in Clay Co., South Dakota in 1875 - 1880. Henry Foland is believed to have been born about 1830 in New York and his wife Malissa is also believed to have been born in New York about 1833. At least two of their children, Harriett G. (born ca. 1865) and William (born ca. 1868) were born in Iowa according to the 1880 U.S. Census.
Our question is: Is there a connection between George Foland and Henry and his wife Malissa? What became of George? Who are Henry's ancestors?

Henry Foland, 29, his wife Melissa, 20 and daughter G[----] A Foland are living with Henry's father Jonas Foland and his family. If you think this is your family, let me know. I have a Henry and Malissa Foland in my direct line and have found them in South Dakota but as a couple no where else. Doug, Thank you for info you sent. I don't know if you would like any more info on Harriet Foland or not, she was my Great Grandmother. I just wanted to let you know that we have her first son listed as Frank Otis Allen and she had one more son, Joel Sherman b. Jan. 1904, Noxon, Sanders county, MT, died July 28, 1985 at Sandpoint, ID. I have found two 1850 Census listing Malissa Raymond, her family and what looks like a place she might have been working. The Census is for Lenox, Madison County, NY. Writen page no. 388 & 389, printed page no. 194 & 195 and then the other is writen page no. 397 and printed page no. 199. Hope this was some added info for you.

Doug, Here is some info let me know if you would like anything else. Frank Allen's fathers name was Solomen Allen. Henry Milden Raynor was born in Canoe Place, Suffolk county, LI, NY, he burned to death April 29, 1924, in a homestead fire that was thought to be arson, but never proved. He also paid for Harriet's divorce from Solomen, who was said to be a mean man when drinking which was said to be often, all of course hearsay on my part. Henry was buried, what could be found by family, May 1, 1924 at Rathdrum Cemetary, Rathdrum, Kootenai county, ID and buried by my G-Grandmother, Grandmother and Aunt beside the infant Harold.
He served 3yrs in the Civil war, Union side, 2nd NJ Cavalry Regiment. Here are the Children's dates I didn't think you had: Fredrick (Fred) Aug. 1, 1884 Died April 26, 1943 in Spokane, Charles Edmund (Ed) died May 11, 1935 in Thompson Falls, Sanders county, MT, Arthur Henry (Art) died
Feb. 8, 1953, Lillian died March 26, 1966, Ernest Gerald (Ernie) died March 9, 1973, Harold Milden born Feb. 16, 1900, died Aug. 18, 1900 he was the first of the three that are buried at Rathdrum, Joel Sherman (Sherman) died July 28, 1985 at Sandpoint, Bonner county, ID. I just ran across this old posting. I haven't dabbled in my genealogy in a couple of years, so I'm not real fresh on the details, but I'm pretty sure I never ran into you. Harriett is my GGGmother, my GGfather is Charles Edmund Raynor. I'd be very interested in more information on the Folands. Thank you.

We (my house mate is the wiz at this) have done quite a bit of work tracing the Folands back to NY and across the water.
I live in Oregon. My brothers and sister live in Spokane WA. Seems to me some of the Raynors were in Idaho.
