I am looking for Otts and Bessingers from Russia to NE and MI (primarily Arenac, Saginaw, Huron and Tuscola Counties).

I know I am related to Henry Bessinger m. Lydia Sherer or Frehling and Georg Bessinger m. to Mary (unknown) b. approx. 1874. These are my great grandmother Katherine Margarete Bessinger's brothers. She was b. 1872, m. Jacob Ott and had children Mary Elisabeth, Katherine Margaret, Elizabeth Katherine, Henry, Jacob, Caroline Juliane and Viola Amanda. Brother Henry had children Henry, Georg, Gottfried, August, Lyida, Emma and Anna. Georg had children Alexander and Louise (probably had more children). I am looking for their parents' names. They were from Kukkus and Stahl am Tarlyk, Russia. Henry came to the states in 1898, Katherine in 1902 and Georg in 1907.

Jacob Ott had brother Philip b. May, 15, 1875, d. 1959 and married Mathilda Firchau. They had children Philip, Gottlieb, Julius, Carl, Adolf, Rosina, Freida, Emma, Martha, and Wilhem. They lived in Frankenmuth and Reese areas. Philip came to the states in 1907 with cousin Adam Schrader. Jacob Ott paid their passage. Jacob's father is listed as John (probably Johannes).

If anyone knows these Otts and Bessingers or is related to them, please contact me.

I don't know if you got this the first time I sent it so I am retyping this.

I was talking to my Grandma and her mother's name was Elizabeth Ott from Russia. Elizabeth Ott married Godfre Balde somewhere in Russia. They had a son Edward and sailed to the United States sometime from 1915 to 1918. Elizabeth had a Uncle who lived in Detroit with the name Horst.

Elizabeth Ott's family in Russia owned a factory (that might have made gloves) and also owned a restaurant.

If you know anything of these people please let me know. Thank you.

I don't show an Elizabeth Ott, but I have not been able to conclusively find out where my great grandfather Ott lived in Russia. It may be that when I have Dr. Pleve make my Ott chart, I will find your Elizabeth Ott. Do you have any idea when she was born or any of her siblings' names? My great grandfather was Jacob and he had a brother Philip. They were from the Nowousensk District in Samara. I believe they were from Pobochnoye and the daughter villages.

I will try and find out more about Elizabeth Ott's family memebers. Regarding Jacob Ott and their children, I am going to list my Grandmother's brothers and sisters please note how many of them have the same names as Philip's. Again Elizabeth Ott married Godfre Balde and their first born was Edward who was born in Russia. The rest of the family was born in Sheboygan Wisconsin and they were Freida, Clara, Selma, Emma, John, Tootie, Otto and Martha.

It could be that they were common names in that area but I thought I would mention it. Again I will try and look further into other members of the family. If you find out any more please let me know.

Thank you.

Michelle, I don't know much about my Otts. I do know they were shoe makers in Russia and once here worked in basically general stores or Mercantiles. I only know for certain that my great grandfather Jacob had a brother Philip and a cousin Adam Schraeder. Philip was listed as a cobbler on his ship's list. Jacob lived in Berne, MI and AuGres, MI. Philip lived just outside Vassar, MI, probably in Gera. The most information I can find about where they lived in Russia is the Nowousensk district in Samara. I have never been able to find a village name. My Bessingers lived in Stahl am Tarlyk and Kukkus.

Were your Otts Lutheran or Catholic? My Otts were Lutherans.

Edward Balde was my great-grandfather. He eventually settled in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He married Margaret Simbach and they had three children, Jim, Audrey, and Edith. Most of Edward's siblings settled in southern Wisconsin.

Suzanne:

I just came across your 2002 bulletin-board about the Ott-Bessinger family. I can't help with the early history of these families, (though my records for your greatgrandmother's siblings are not totally in agreement with yours), but I do know a bit more about the later history. My wife, Marlene Maser, born in Au Gres, MI, is Mathilda Firchau's granddaughter, and Philip Ott was her step-grandfather.

Of the Ott children you listed, I believe that Julius, Gottlieb, Philip, Rosina, Friedlinde (Frieda) and Martha were by Philip's first wife Maria (or Mary), and Adolph, William, Carl and Emma by Mathilda Firchau. Mathilda also had children Julius, Rosella and Martha by her first husband, Edward Retzloff; they were, I believe, adopted by Philip Ott.
