I am looking for volunteers to transcribe cemeteries in Iowa County. RootsWeb has an ongoing transcription project that has been very useful to many, including me. If you're interested, the details are at the following link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/index.html. There are still several available so you should be able to choose one close to you.

Here is the Iowa County link:

This is a great summer project. I have done several in Ogle County, Illinois and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Please join us to make this project successful. Be sure to contact me if you choose to transcribe a cemetery so we don't duplicate our efforts.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

Thank you.

If all you have to do is go to the cemeteries and write down names and dates, I may be interested in doing this in Mineral Point.

Thank you for your interest. It looks like there are two cemeteries available in Mineral Point - Saint Mary's (north of MP) and Saint Pauls (south of town off of 151). I'm not very familiar with the area so if you know of another you would prefer to transcribe, let me know (except for Graceland, that one is complete). There are more available in the county so if these aren't right for you, we can look for another nearby.

Here is a link to some suggestions on how to begin this task. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Kris,

I don't live near WI so can't help with the transcription project, but noticed your posting when looking for Iowa County Cemetery information. I tried the links you gave, but neither worked.

I was looking at the board to see if there was information on Thurber Cemetery in Clyde, Iowa Co., WI. I saw from the Iowa Co. Genelaogical Soc. site that the cemetery was transcribed but not published. Do you know anything about it?

Florence

Florence,

Here are the links again. Thank you for pointing that out.

I don't know anything about the Thurber Cemetery, sorry. You would have to contact the genealogical society directly.

Thurber Cemetery is located off of County Highway NN in Clyde township. It cannot be seen from the road. My cousin had to stop at a house for directions and then walk thru a cow pasture to find it. It is not kept up and very small, hidden in the trees on the knoll between two roads.

I have a picture she took of the location a few years ago. Some of my Hoxie ancestors are buried there.

As far as the publication of the cemetery transcription goes, I believe it is available from the Iowa County Genealogical Society.

Hope this helps.

My family is researching the Dietzman cemetery near Rewey. I would be willing to transcribe it, but it is in bad shape and we need to do some research as to who is buried there. Any information or leads to information would be appreciated.
