Am searching information on the Rev. William Porteus. He was
married twice: 1-Ann Lee 2-??. He had 13 children live to
adulthood. They are Robert, Richard, Thomas, Simon, Jane,
Rose Ann, Eliza, Mary, John, James, William, Moore Lee, and
Fanny Ann.
The time period would be late 1700s to mid 1800s. Have more
information to share as well as contact with descendents of
some of these children.
Thanks.

My grandfather William Porteus came to U. S from Ireland. Fought in our civil war. Could there be a connection? I never knew him; was named for him.

I've done quite a bit of research on the families of two sons of William Porteus and Anna Lee that were born in County Fermanagh, Ireland, and ended up in St. Lawrence County, New York. These were my ancestors, Moore Lee Porteus and Elizabeth Davis (who was born in Pennsylvania); and John Porteus and Jane Presley. I also have info on another brother, James Porteus, who married Jane Smedley in Pennsylvania. Where did your William Porteus live in the U.S.?

I am looking for my paternal grandmother's family who originally were suppose to have come from Ireland. I have found no information on this. I've only been able to go back to Crawford Alexander Presley who was born in 1837 in Sabine Parish in Louisiana. I have been unable to find the names of Crawford's parents. Have you heard of any Presleys who came from Ireland and eventually settled in the southern US?

I really haven't done any Presley research. My ancestor, Moore Lee Porteus, was born in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Ireland, and migrated to Pennsylvania about 1818, then later to northern New York State. His brother, John Porteus, married Jane Presley in Ireland, and this family came to northern New York in the 1840s. As I recall, there was a half-sister of Moore Lee and John who also married a Presley, but I have little info on them.

Another thing you might consider - Elvis Presley apparently descends from a Palatine German PRESLER family, according to research by Henry Z Jones, Jr. I hope this helps.
