I show Edger E. Craft as son of John W.Craft of Sidney and Algansee, Branch Twp, Michigan. I am not aware of any native american connection.

Hi Phil. This is your cousin Karen Anway. I recently came across some info about Edgar Eugene or Eugene Edgar. He was born 18 Feb 1856 in Sidney, Mi, Montcalm co, and he died on 09 Mar 1916. He is buried in Crystal Cemetery in Crystal, Mi . His father is John W. Craft and mother is Ann(a) E. Bailey. He died of heart disease. His father's name was on his marriage record as J.W. Craft so I looked for a J.W. Craft in the death record and found John W. Craft but it turns out to be a brother ==on this record it names the father as John W. and both had the same name for the mom. Married Doris (Dora) Rebecca Wohltman Slater on 30 Oct 1895 in Sheridan Mi. He lived in Sidney and she lived in Stanton at the time. He had several siblings. Alwilda L. b. 14 Nov 1853 d. 12 May 1869, Then Edgar, Seward b. 05 Jun 1860 d. 18 Feb 1902, John w. Jr. b. 21 Oct 1869 d. 13 Mar 1912 in Greenville, Lenora A.b. 30 Apr 1871 d.04 Sep 1871. Hi Phil.
This is your cousin Karen. I have done more research on the Craft side of the family and have found out a lot of info. First, Edgar Eugene was born on 18 Feb 1856 and died on 09 Mar 1916. His father was John W. Craft and mother was Ann(a) E. Bailey. He had nine siblings, three are buried in Stanton, and Edgar is buried in Crystal. I went to the cem. in Stanton and found the 3, Alwilda, Seward and Leonora. I went to Crystal's cem. but did not find a stone. I am going to contact the sexton and find out just where he is at. Maybe he didn't have a stone. Some one in Branch county had done some research on this family too and went to 1761. but I haven't written to her yet some of the info doesn't quite jive with mine. so I want to check it out. I have the names of the other siblings. His parents are buried in Branch county. contact me for more. Karen Anway at tucker@iserv.net or phone me.

Hello, I too am looking for information about this family. This is my husbands side of the tree.
John W. Craft born Sep 1868 Stanton Ionia, Michigan died 13 Mar 1912 Greenville, Montcalm, Michigan is my husbands great grandfather. John married Bell Knapp October 3rd 1893.

I am very interested in any information anyone may have on this John. The two had 2 daughters and 2 sons. Robert Jesse Craft is my husbands grandfather.

The family story is that he was half Indian. Robert changed his name from Craft to West after 1920. There is also a story that there was a murder in his family. I have found John W. Craft in a Jackson Pris. Census. Belle living with son Robert.

No one knows why Robert changed his name. He died in Three Rivers Michigan 1971.

My family is very much interested in any information about this family. If anyone has any information no matter how little or much, it may be some clue for us to find out more. Please contact me!

I do research for the Crystal Community Library. We have a newspaper article dated March 17, 1916 from the Crystal Mail newspaper which reads:
PASSED AWAY
Eugene Craft, who had been quite ill with pneumonia, was taken worse the first of last week with heart trouble and passed away Wednesday night. The funeral services were held last Friday morning at the Congregational church, Rev. W.E. Lyon officiating. Interment in the Crystal cemetery. The deceased leaves a wife and one child to mourn his departure.

Eugene Craft also had an infant son who passed away in 1908. Crystal Mail newspaper, October 2, 1908 reads:
The infant son of Eugene Craft and wife died Tuesday night.

If you would like the actual articles, e-mail me at sbrooks@nomadinter.net and I will send them to you.
