My husband's side has some McCLOYs. His GGgrandmother was Margaret McCLOY born ca 1822 in Ireland. Family lore has her coming over from Ireland when she turned 18 to join 2 older siblings. Margaret ends up in San Francisco Co., Alameda Co., California. She marries George Taylor LEON, has chilren (George, Mary, Katie, and Edward) and dies 1915, all in the Bay Area of California.
A couple of days ago I received a copy of a letter that has more info. It says she was from Co. Antrim in Ireland. That she sailed from Belfast to New York and then around the Horn to California. That the 2 siblings were Allan and Elizabeth 'Lizzie'. Lizzie married a Edward KELLEY/KELLY, his second marriage. Their children (Mary Jane, Elizabeth and Mammie/Maggie) grew up in the Sacramento Co. area of California. Mary Jane marries a H.B. Smith and Elizabeth marries Peter Robinson, and Maggie/Mammie dies at the age of 14. Now Elizabeth and Peters children were: Ethel, Margaret, James, Ames/Auuil[what?] and lorine/Loveinl. I don't find a Allen MCCloy in California during the time period of 1860-1880 but do find a John A, but the age is wrong-he's not older then my Margaret.
The letter was only written 30 years ago so its from someones memory.

I am trying to find out some info, on a picture I found in my grandmother's photo album...She was married to William McLachlin McIlravey, both of them born in Port Glasgow, Sct.
On the back of the picture it states that Katie McCloy with Lizzys daughters Margaret and Betty..
Does these name come into your family anywhere..I do now that a McIlravey girl married a McCloy..
The girl (McIlravey) was the sister to my grandfather William..

Surnames: Holliday, Mawhinney, McCloy, Hunter, Steele, Lyons-Weir, Threewitts.
My great-Aunt was Eupeme (Holliday) McCloy. She was born in Illinois, moved to Texas, and on to California in the early 1900's. One of their children was a Jean McCloy.
Do you have any Holliday's in your research notes?
Thank you, Theresa
