Alda, Isaac O. Swain of Little Orleans is my great great grandfather. I have very limited information about him. My files are at home and I will gather them and post more info. My mother is Delores Swain Spielman, Daughter of William Webster Swain, who was James Swains son. James Swain is on of Isaac O. Swain's son's. Please let me know if this helps and I'll gather more info. Matt

Daryl--
I am searching the Isaac Swain Family, Bradford Co, PA. There appears to be a senior Isaac Swain on the 1800 census showing he's 45+. On the 1810 Bradford Co census, he is gone. I believe that this senior Isaac was born in Sharon, Litchfield Co, CT in 1745 (son of John). Isaac married Violet Read. On the 1810 Bradford Co census, there is a son Read Swain, along with Bethuel, Isaac, JR. and the son of Isaac Jr. (Isaac III). The Swain Family are descendants of William Swain, born 1585 in England and migrated to Massachusetts and then on into Connecticut, where he was magistrate of the Massachusetts Land Company, dying in Bradford, CT.

Do you have any information on Isaac, born 1745? I need to know where he was between the American Rev. and 1790.

I descend from Lorena Swain, who married Charles Rennells (son of Benjamin J. Rennells) in Bradford Co and later moved to Darke Co, OH.

Here's what I have on Isaac (Sr). I am descended through Isaac> Andrew> Joseph > Recksiville Ellen SWAIN who married Willard Philander SMITH. Have you been in contact with Bonny McDaniel?

1. Isaac SWAIN, Sr., born Abt. 1769 in CT; died 29 Mar 1853 in West Burlington Twp., Bradford Co., PA1. He married (1) Dorothy [--?--]. She was born Abt. 1779 in CT, and died 22 Apr 18531.

Notes for Isaac SWAIN, Sr.:
Pioneer & Patriot Families of Bradford County PA 1770-1800
Vol. I - Clement F. Heverly p.267
Isaac Swain was one of the Connecticut emigrants, who came to Sugar Creek and settled at West Burlington, 1792. A little later Bethuel Swain settled in East Burlington, next to James Braffit; he and his wife, Patty, in 1815 sold their land to John McKean and removed to other parts. Jacob Swain, evidently a son of Isaac, lived in West Burlington. Isaac cleared and improved a farm, where he died March 29, 1853; his wife, Dorothy, died April 22, 1852. Other children of Isaac were: Isaac, Jr. married Sophia Pratt; Dorothy married Mr. Pratt; Orphelia married Mr. Parkhurst; Phoebe married Joseph Pratt; Cynthia married Zepheniah Lane; Susanna married Alanson Bailey; Eber married Susan Murphy; Andrew M. married Mary Ann Brigham.

1800 census indicates Isaac Swaine with the following household:

I am just starting to do this so don't have much information. My G-Grandfather (Issac O. Swain) was born in Oct.1855. What I can gather is his father was James Swain & mother Isabella Logan. I wish I knew more.
Let me know if this connects. Thanks
Alda

Robert: Hi, again. I have been trying to put these Swains together and would like to add you to my Swain research group. We had computer trouble and I have to get back into these sites to get the email addresses from my group.
Interested in your research on the Isaacs in Bradford Co PA. I still haven't gone back any further but I have gathered a great deal on the descendants of Isaac, Jacob, and Bethuel. The latter is the one my husband descends from.
Do you know what happened to your Lorena Swain after her husband died? Did she marry a Paddock in Preble Co? There was a Lorena Swain that married Ebenezer Paddock there. Let me hear from you...bonnyjim@aol.com
