Hello! The Willis Sawyer you were asking about on the Marion County 1810 census is my ancestor. He moved to Lowndes County AL with his wife's family in the 1820's. He was married to Mary McQueen. I have the probate on all of his children and he did not have a child by the name of Levi. Willis was born around 1776. Is Levi your ancestor? When did you find him in Marion County? I would be interested in any information you might have on any Sawyers you located in that area during that time period.

Thanks!

I too am looking for info on the Sawyers of Marion County, S.C.. I'm looking for any info on a John Sawyer & a Thomas Sawyer. I also found Willis Sawyer in the 1860 census and know there is probably a connection but can't find it. John Sawyer's wife was Mary and Thomas was married twice, his second wife was my g.g.grandmother and her name was Sally Prudence Hewitt. They had four children, Jim, Mary Florence, Jessie and my grandfather the baby, William Joseph Sawyer.
I also found a Levi listed in the 1830. 1850 census but not listed in the 1860 census. I am e-mailing you because of your reply to a message posted concerning Willis & Levi and it sounded as if you might have some info. Is there a connection between Willis, Levi, John & Thomas (Known as Tom)that you know of?

I am researching the Sawyers of Marion County also. My mother's grandfather was William H. Sawyer who was listed in the 1850 census with a John and Mary Sawyer and with John in 1860. One of his sons was also named William Joseph Sawyer. My grandfather, his son, was named John Henry. I am trying to find the connection between John, Thomas, James, Willis, and Levi. My mother's sister was a Sawyer and married Henry Nathan Sawyer, son of Douglas and Elizabeth Smith Sawyer. Douglas according to my aunt was the great uncle of William H. On Douglas's death certificate which I obtained recently was his father's name John Sawyer and his mother's maiden name Lizzie Carabo. All three were born in Marion County. Douglas was born about 1854. I would love to share information.

Jon, while searching through some ancestry data I found the date of death for Levi Sr. who was a brickmason. He was found dead in 1860.I have to find the information again to be sure of the cause of death and the exact date.
