Surnames: Liebenstein, Sheffer
I am trying to find the ancestry of my gggg-grandmother Christiana “Liebenstine” (b. 09/01/1790, d. 08/01/1880.) In the family of Johann George Liebenstein (1713-1771) and Catharina Rauscher, there was a daughter named Christina (b. 08/05/1746 in Manchester Twp, York, d. 05/05/1809 in Adams County,) and then two grandchildren named Christina (#1 b. 02/06/1791, of Michael Liebenstein & Maria Elizabeth Lantz; #2 b. 10/26/1783, of John George Liebenstein and Elizabeth Barbara Lantz). All of them appear to have lived in York.

Johann George and Catharina had other sons for whom I have not found descendants: John Adam (b. 02/16/1739) and John (b. 03/08/1759), both born in York. I am wondering if Christiana might be one of their children.

Christiana “Liebenstine” married John Sheffer (1786-1835). They had at least one son, Uriah Seth Sheffer (1824-1898). Can anyone “link up” Christiana to a line of Liebensteins?

You may want to look at John Leibenstein, born 3/8/1759 and died intestate about 1826 in York County, probably in the York Twp/Spring Garden Twp area. He was married to Anna Barbara Walter (b. 6/18/1765-d.??). They had 5 children that I have record of: Eva (b. 1-8-1784-d.?? md Jacob Kreps); George (b. 1787-d.1858 md Elizabeth __?__); Christina (md John Shaffer); John (b.2-27-1794-d.??) and Jacob (b. 6-3-1797-d.?? md Charlotte Ebert). This is all I have from my notes. I do have noted that these families were living in the York Twp and Spring Garden Twp areas of York Co.

Hope this gives you a possible lead. Your birth date for Christiana of 9-1-1790 would fit in with this family. Check some of the intestate and orphan court records in York County for a John Leibenstein (Livingston) in the vicinity of 1826 give or take a year or so; that may help.

I am descended via John Leibenstein's brother John George Leibenstein.

I agree with Keith.John Leibenstine's orphan court record OC-P 19 dated 5/9/1826 mentions Christian married to John Shaffer and the OC-P-46 of 9/12/1826 for John mentions Christana married John Sheffer.
John born 1759 was 67 when he died
In the 1820 census for York Township John Levenstine is over 45 years of age.(57)
In the 1810 census for York township John Livingstine is over 45 years of age.(47)
In the 1800 census for York township John Libenstine is 26 to 45(37) with 3 males 0-10 and i female 0-10 and 1 female 10-16 and 1 female 26-45 (35)
In the 1795 tax records for York Township John Levenstine has 91 Acres of land some of which is in Shrewsberry Twp.
In 1790 John Libinston has 1 male 0-10 and 3 females . this all fits with John born 8 April 1759 to George and Catherine.
John's wife Barbara is mentioned in the will of her father Jacob Walter Will F-278 dated 14 Oct 1783. Barbara born as Anna Barbara 18 June 1765 according to the Friendensaal's Church record could have reasonably married John Leibenstine when she was 17-18 so that their first child Eve born 8 Jan 1784 according to Zeigler's church record in Codorus township fits with her birth date of 1765. In the record of Eve's birth her mother is listed as Barbara.
Jacob's wife is Margaret Gippel. Perhaps this is Gibbel or now Gable I didn't check it out. Jacob Walter had 4 daughters and a son George.
