I am just starting to trace my mom's family and wondered if there was a connection. My grandfather's name was Andrew Krivanek (1888-1963). He married Anna Jecminek and they had a farm near Foxboro, Wisconsin. He had a sister named Filomena Krivanek (1885-1972) who married Henry Cermak and lived in St. Paul, Minnisota. My great grandparents were John Krivanek (1861-1932), and Josephine Novotny (1861-1941). They came to America when the children were very young - from Czech? or Yugo?. My great great grandparents were William and Frances Krivanek, and Anthony and Marie Novotny. My mom has said several of her grandfather's brothers (and I think one sister) also came over -- and that is what I am trying to trace now. One is Wencel/Wenzel Krivanek, the sister is Mary Mikavik. I'm not sure of the other brothers names. Any connections there? thanks. Kathy Vacek

Rosalie Josefa (Josephine) Kratochvil was born 4 Sep 1861in Příbram, Moravia (Czech Republic). The town is just west of Brno about 12 miles. She married Anton Křivánek 10 Feb 1878 in Vysoké Popovice (a couple of miles south of Příbram where the church was located). She and her husband and oldest child emigrated in 1879 and sailed on a ship from Bremen on July 20. They arrived in New York City on August 12th and settled near Wahoo, Nebraska.

Her parents were Ignác Kratochvil and Anna Pelanová (Pelan). Ann was born 17 Jan 1834 in Bezděkov, Moravia, and died in 1901. These are the children: Aloisie (f) b. 1856, Franz (m) b. 1858, Františka (f) b. 1859, Rosalie Josefa (f) 1861, Cyril, (m) b. 1863, Jan (m) b. 1865, Marie (f) b. 1870, Vincencie (f) b. 1874.

Josephine's grandparents were Josef Kratchovil and Anna Rousová, b. Ořechov (all females have the "ová" ending) and František Pelan, b. Bezděkov and Kathřina Cendelinová, b. Jáchymov--all in Moravia.

Bohemia is the western half of the Czech Republic and Moravia is the eastern half.
