Chelie,

I'm a descendant of Ann Arpy "Lucy" DUVALL (daughter of Simon DUVALL & Mary Ann CISSELL) and Severius RINEY (son of Thomas Edward RINEY III and Sarah Ann FRENCH Manning. I have a copy of Patrica R. Webber's "The Riney Family" book and would be glad to give you some of the information as well as her address (she is in the process of republishing her book with all the new updates) she has on Louvina (this is her spelling, but it definitely the same person) who was Severius' full sister.

Kim,

The names of Thomas Riney and Sarah French rang a bell. Their daughter Emily Riney Tucker was the second wife of my great great grandfather, John Chrysostom Layton. I have their marriage date as 7/1/1860. Her grave, which I visited in Perryville this fall, listed her birth as 6/8/1836 and death as 9/15/1860. It was a short lived marriage.I would be interested in information on "The Riney Family Book" you mentioned so I can follow up on this link. Louvina and Severius were siblings of Emily?? Joslyn

Kim,

My folks have a copy of Patricia R. Webber's "The Riney Family" book. I am also a decendent of Thomas Edward RINEY III. My father is Ruben Thomas BALTZ, my grandmother is Flora Elizabeth RINEY BALTZ, her folks are Benjamin RINEY and Ida REATHBAM.

I am looking for information concerning Ida REATHBAM's parents. My grandmother tells me that Ida's parents were
"Grampa" REATHBAM and Flora FRIEND. She also knows that Flora FRIEND is 1/2 Cherokee Indian. Would you know where I could find information about REATHBAM or FRIEND.

Thanks,
Nathan

This IS fun, I'm getting addicted! I wonder if the book is incorrect in regard to the death of Emily as her stone states Sept. 15, 1860. How does one get in touch with Patricia? Is her book readily available? Are you related to the Burgett's or Laytons?

Hi Joslyn,

This is getting fun! Another link in the chain is found! Yes, Emily was a sister to Louvina and Severius along with 5 other brothers and sisters through Thomas Edward Riney's 2nd marriage to Sarah Ann French Manning. There were 6 other siblings (half-brothers and sisters) through his first marriage to Sarah Duvall (who I just found out is a sister to Simon Duvall, another one of my relatives.) TOO MANY COUSINS MARRYING! Apparently, according to Patricia, this family had lots of children who died due to asthma.

I also see from Patricia's book that her marriage to John Layton lasted about 3 years before she died in Jan. 1863.

Patricia is supposed to come out with a revised version of her book some time this year. And if you have more information to give her, be sure and let her know.

Hi Nathan,

I will add your name to my RINEY e-mail list. Most of my Riney information came from Patricia's book also, except of course, the information she did not have on my great-grandmother, Mary Isabella "Belle" Riney Ellis since she though she had died as a child. She is correcting that in her revised edition which should be out some time this year.

As far as any information on your other lines, no, don't have anything, but I have a web site you should check out. It is:
http://www.powersource.com/powersource/cherokee/gene.html
Look at this and see if you can find your ancestor's name on one of the rolls mentioned.

Also, try contacting the county library in the area your ancestors lived. They might be able to direct you to the local genealogy society. That's what I did in Perry County. They gave me lots of information on my Riney, Cissell (Cecil), and Duvall lines!

Hello, I am interested in any additional information about Evarestus Riney, son of Thomas Riney and Sarah Anne French. I have that Evarestus first married Ellen Kline. She passed away 30 May 1836. They had two children, William Simon Riney and Ann Catherine. Ellen Kline was the sister of by ggg-grandfather, William Kline.

I have Evarestus' will, in which he leaves to "my son William Riney one dollar to be paid him by my Exectuer [sic], ...I will and bequeath that all the property to be sold and divided among them [my children]excepting William Riney who has never lived with me not asisted [sic] with acumulating [sic] the property." In 1840, Evarestus Riney is listed as living alone. He was in his 2nd marriage by this time and had 4 children living. Where were the children living?

William Simon Riney married Martha Ann McCabe, half-sister of my gg-grandfather, Samuel Rankin. Martha Ann died 07 Oct 1863 leaving 2 children, Ellen & Elias. William Simon Riney remarried 1 year later to Maria Smith, daughter of John Smith and Ann Tucker.

Is there any info in the Riney Family book on these indiviuals? Thanks.
Shirley

Evaristus & William Riney

Shirley,

According to Patricia Riney Webber's book, Evaristus mother was Sarah DUVALL (may be the sister of John Mile DUVALL), Thomas Edward RINEY's first wife. If this is wrong, let Patricia R. Webber know. Evarestus RINEY was born 1816, de. 12 Sept 1853 in MO. There is an Evarista who was the first child by Sarah Ann FRENCH Manning and Thomas Edward RINEY. Could these be mixed up?

Evarestus RINEY married first Elinda CLINE/KLINE 1836. He married second to Nancy HAGAN. (She says that Nancy HAGAN married 4 times after Evarestus' death!)

According to Patricia, William Simon RINEY was the only child by his first wife. He was born 1836. Died 25 Nov 1876.

She doesn't have any information about "Ann Catherine." This would be new to her. (She had also thought my GG-Grandmother, Mary Isabella RINEY, had died as an infant, until I contacted her.)

The other children by Nancy HAGAN include: Emily Filomena, Francis Marion, Louisa Jane, Mary Adeline, Ann Arpy, and a unnamed son who died in infancy.

She shows that William Simon RINEY married Martha MCCABE 27 Nov 1856 (she was born 12 Jul 1841 & died 7 Oct 1863). He later married Maria SMITH 31 Jan 1864 (she was born 4 Feb 1839 and died 22 May 1878).

Children by McCabe included: Ellen E. and Elias.

Children by Smith included: William E. Lawrence V., Sara Adeline, & another William E?

That's all that she has in the book. Be sure and write to her about your information. I know she would be very interested in correcting any mistakes or omissions.
