The following is a list of Demerara plantations that were extracted from a map dated around 1843. I've listed others to help locate its whereabouts. The S and C stand for Sugar and/or Coton. Unfortunately I have no other information.

A 1798 map of Guyana listing plantations and their owners shows the following:
Plantation Proprietor Squares
De Uitvlugt Erve J.F. Boode 1500 K

I have no other information. Do you know what Erve stands for?

In my files are two poor photocopies of maps of Guyana (British Guiana) taken in Salt Lake City in 1997 but unfortunately I failed to note from which books they came. On one of these is marked Uitvlugt which is on the sea coast of the West coast of the River Demerara (in the Parish of St. Luke I think). By West coast I mean going up river from the sea i.e. on the right hand side.

"Tropical Cocktails" written in 1986 by Mike Henry, mentions that close to Georgetown are distillers such as Enmore, Diamond, Versailles and Uitvlugt. You could try and write to the distillers to see if they still exist and whether they have any information..

Yes, Uitvlugt is still a place in Guyana. I have been there more than once.

UITVLUGT - Plantation: West Coast, Demerara, 10 miles from Vreed-en-Hoop.

Taken from "Where Is It?" A Gazetteer of British Guiana compiled by Vincent Roth, Retired Government Surveyor and Warden.

I was born and grew up at Uitvlugt Estate, the older people, like grandparents, used to call it Bourda which i think is also Dutch.

Surnames: BOURDA, BOODE
Uitvlugt (Dutch:"Overlooking the Sea"). Was owned by I believe Jean Frederic BOODE. Joseph BOURDA owned Niew Aanley and Vlissingen also called Flushing. I believe they had other platations there but I do not have the list handy. The 2 families did have a marriage in 1799 when Edward Gustave BOODE married Cathrine BOURDA. If any one has info of either family linage- I would very much appreciate if you would share. Thanks
