My wife's family (Darigo now) has roots
from Spadafora in Messina. Onofrio (b. 1864), whose son Salvatore (b. 1894) came over to the US.
From what I could gather from census and ship info, Salvatore had siblings, Concetta, Carmella and Stefana.
Onofrio's was married to Concetta Castelli (b. 1867)

attached is a image my brother-in-law drew as a teenager.

My father Anthony Sabino Darrigo's father was from Messina, Italy and his name was Salvatore Darrigo. In 1926 he was 30 years of age. He was married to Eleanore Trofa, from Montefusco, Italy. He had a sister named Carmela. I do believe there may be a connection here.

The Salvatore in my wife's family, married a Mary Mangano (settled in Philadelphia). It's possible his father Onorfrio had a brother named Salvatore (who I think settled in NYC) who may have had a son Salvatore as well. It wouldn't surprise me that they named their children similar names, which seemed to be the thing at the time.

Which area did your father settle in when he came to the US?

My grandmother was from Spatafora , her name was Concetta and born about
1906 . She did have a sister named Stefana and I think a brother named Thomas
She died in 1974 . She married Guiesppe Ippolito. I do know her father was a
fisherman.

Can you please email me at g_gallen@hotmail.com (g_gallen at hotmail.com)
I'd like to forward you a picture I have of Salvatore to see if it looks familar?
One of Salvatore's sons was named Thomas.

Where did your grandmother live in the US? or did she remain in Italy?

when I saw the last name ippolito, it reminded me of something I saw on the web, after a little digging I found:

I'm pretty sure that Salvatore's father was Onorfrio, and the above link, which directly relates to your grandmother, shows her father's name as Gaetano, so I don't think your grandmother and my wife G Grandfather were cousins, however it is possible that Gaetano and Onorfrio were brothers.

In speaking with my wife's uncle, he remembered a time when he was a boy with his grandfather (salvatore) at either a wedding or a funeral, and he said his grandfather mentioned that the ippolito's were his cousins, which would pretty much mean that his father and their father were brothers (Onorfrio and Gaetano).
