My grandmother was Flossie Madeline Dolloff Klopp of Middletown Ohio. Her immigrant ancestor was Christian Dolloff of Exeter NH b about 1638, on the tax rolls in 1664. He married sarah scammon, daughter of Richard. Has anyone ever found anything further about Christian's ancestry or where his parents, etc came from? I have heard everything from the Netherlands to Russia to Germany. The only foreign lead I have ever seen is James DOLLIFFE of England, and it is said that Christian Dolloff/Dolak/Dolhoof/Dolack was NOT English. Any further leads would be appreciated. My Grandmother researched Christian from about 1928 until her death in 1960, and I have been searching since then. Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

I am also a direct desendant of Christian and have heard all of the same stories. I have even heard he spoke a language no one could understand. I have been trying to find if he came from Belgium as they speak Dutch and Flemish there. I have heard he was Dutch but saailed as crew from England. No one and I mean no one seems to be able to locate his origin. I just recently started seeing the Logardin, Bogardin thing as the middle name which gave me the idea that maybe he was Flemish ( from Belgium) so far no luck there.

I have read about him in the 6th ave. library in NYC. I beleive it was like a background thing. Yes it details the spelling changes of the name to americanize it. I'm not the best typist in the world. But there are some dolloffs in ct. that know a great deal.

Jeanne Dolloff- Lowenthal is on the message boards at Familytreemaker.com She and her sister have done an enormous amount of research and she has a very interesting theory which she backed up with alot of fact in e mails to me. The original spelling may have been Doloss which ids a Scotish name. He may have been a prisoner of the Cromwell war sent here to work in the Sawmill in Dover Nh then did his indenture in Exeter. Please see her opostings on the other board. You can e mail me at jeanma@peoplepc.com

I have been working with Jeanne L. concerning the Dolloffs in my Scammon genealogy. I will be in contact with the historian George Frank Scammon that researched the Scammon genealogy and have asked the question concerning Christian Dolloff's marriage to Sarah Scammon.I am waiting for a reply from him. I now live in Amesbury Mass, just down the road from Exeter NH. I had contacted a cousin from 6 generations back but have lost contact with her, she lives near Exeter. Christian Dolloff's home, near Exeter is still in the Dolloff family, although I hear the people there are somewhat secretive...reclusive. I started planning a Dolloff family reuniuon while stationed in Calif in the Marines. I was planning to have it the summer of 2000, to kick off the millenium. However I got to busy. It's still something I would like to do. If anyone has further ideas please email me. Thanks, Biil
