I am searching for information regarding Charles R. Douglass, one of the sons of the famous Frederick Douglass. He was Born about 1840 and died about 1920. I would like to know where he was born, where he died, where he is buried, if he married, if so - (more than one wife?) did he have any children. He is a veteran of the 54th Mass Infantry and the 5th Mass. Cavalry during the Civil War, which is my main point of study. If anyone can direct me to any on-line pointers or has the information at hand
(with sources quoted)please contact me at: icecat0000@aol.com

I am also interested in any information relating to any person who served in the 5th Mass. Cavalry during the Civil War.

Thank you,
-John

Both Charles and his brother Lewis Henry served in the African American 54th Regiment from Massachusetts. You can find this little mention of them and pictures of them in a book called: Majestic In His Wrath...A Pictoral Life of Fredrick Douglass, on page 58. I believe he may have been born in either Lynn or New Bedford, Mass. I am actually doing some reasearch on births and deaths and burials myself. My husband is a direct descendant of Frederick Douglass through Frederick III, son of Joseph Henry, son of Charles Remond, son of Frederick Douglass (of course). So, good luck and if you find any info on the burials and such I love for you to share with me. Thanks.Diana Morris

Hi there. I would love the info of Charles' great grandson myself. He would be a first cousin of my mother in law. Because you didn't mention his name, I can't ask my mother in law about her cousin. She is Nettie Washington Douglass, great granddaughter of Charles through his son Joseph Henry, and his son, Frederick Douglass III was her father. If you could pass on the info you have I would really appreciate it and would be a great addition to my own research. Thanks Diana Morris

Well hello there! This is the side of the family I was researching next. My cousin is Fredrick Douglass. I am related through my Great-Grandfather Carroll A Washington Sr. His brothers and sisters Lena, Herbert, and Oscar and his mother Clara Washington. I'm trying to see how but I can't get past Clara. My family also has letters of my Great-grandfather and Fredrick writing each other.
