We have extensive information about the American side of the Herman Jahnke/Ida Emma Pache story; coming to Chicago via New York from Germany. This family was an East Prussian family reared near the small towns of Briesen and Lessen, near G'Dansk in what is the Polish corridor and now a part of Poland.

We are seeking information about the parents and grand-parents of Herman. If anyone has information about this eastern part of West Prussian family, please contact us. Thank you.

Thanks.

The only dates I have right now are their children. Ludwig (Lewis, Louis) was born 02/14/1879 and Anna was born 04/19/1874 and I don't know of any other children at this point. Anna said she was born in Mischori, Poland. She married Hermann Ferchoff and moved to Canada in the 1950's I believe. (Still trying to get more information) Her brother Lewis (Ludwig, Louis) said he was born in Russia and his mother tougue is German. I believe it Poland, West Prussia was occupied by Russia at the time he was born. Lewis's son Edmund said he was born in Janoschow, Poland/Germany. I don't know if the spelling of the towns are correct. Edmund's sister Teresa has alot of letters in Polish. So I'm thinking more from Poland than Germany. I'm getting more information everyday, so let's stay in touch. Blavelvet@aol.com

Sue: I don't think these are related families, the areas are quite different, and we don't have any of those names around those dates. OUrs were from Lessen (Lasin in Polish) and Briesen (Wabrezno in Polish)near G'Dansk, and the dates of our family are around 1856 with our direct great grandfather born in 1870 (about).

Thanks for response, though. Have you used the Polish IGI in microfiche form yet? That might help, they have lots of Jahnke's there.

James-I have a Justine or Justina Jahnke married to Vincent Brandt coming to Milwaukee via New York from West Prussia. Her parents Michael Jahnke and Anna E also came with them along with their other daughters. They came on a ship named the Jenny in the year 1869. However, the ship records didn't mention the city that they came from only that they shipped out of Prussia. Do you by any chance have information on this family? Any help would be greatly apprecited.
Thanks, Tammy

The name Michael Jahnke is not from our family line. HOwever, I believe that you will find that line in the LDS On-line search from their IGI, particularly from Germany/Prussia/Poland.

If you type LDS in the Yahoo.com search engine, you will come to LDS FAmily History Centers; clicking on that will get you to a page that shows a number of them and one of their underlined sites is their on-line ancestral search. click on that, and enter Jahnke, Michael. Pay particular attention to the location of that family in Prussia, it is very important. Ours were in German territory from 1870 to 1918, then it reverted to Poland. Before 1870 it might have been poland also.

Good luck. Jim

James, I am very interested in your family tree. I have a Ida Jahnke who married my Ferdinand Henrich William Engfer 1882 Minn. Ferdinand was also from Prussia and migrated to the U.S. in the late 1800's with his parents. I was wondering if maybe we had a connection? Do you know who Hermans Siblings were? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Kurt

Kurt: I don't have any help for you directly, but maybe I can help you find out. Have you entered your search information into the LDS on-line search page? I would recommend that you try that with the name you have. There were lots of Jahnke families in West Prussia back then, and you might get the information you want.

I use Yahoo to locate LDS. From that I go to Family History Centers and from that to On-Line FAmily Search. From there you can enter information and seek your answers. If you need more help write to me at: djho624@Apex.net.

Good luck, Jim
