Hello,
I don't have the info for you at this moment on how to contact Abel Ruybalid re the book, however I think that shouldn't be a problem since I know that my mother had his phone number etc. I'm not entirely sure how he's related to me or my mother but he is.....My mother's name was Helen May Sandoval but her maiden name was Ruybalid, unfortunately she passed away this past December 6, 2002.
Please email me just so I don't forget to get that info for you.

Debra,
I have just started to try to trace my roots and I came across the information on your great grandfather. I was told growing up that there weren't many Ruybalid's and that all of us are related. I'm trying to find out whether or not there is any truth to the fact that we have any Native American blood. If you have any information that might help I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,
Hillary Ruybalid-Smith

Debi, I am sorry to read about your mother's passing. What is your father's name. My godmother's name is Helen but I have never met my godparents. My father was Fermon Ruybalid and my grandfather was Eli Ruybalid.

HIlary,
Where is your family line from? My father was Fermin Ruybalid, my grandfather was Eli Ruybalid and his father was Nestor Ruybalid. I have part of the family tree posted showing our line.
So far I know that some of us come from an Apache blood line and that we are not "true" Ruybalid. One of the de Ulliberi's or Ulliberi's had an Apache in his home whom he treated like a son. This boy took on the name of Ruybalid and the line carried on. There was one or some Ruybalid who had children with INdian servants. I don't know yet if the children took on the Ruybalid name. I believe there are other Native American tribes that we are related to. Still researching...

Hello Deb, Antonio and Angelita are my great-great grandparents, my understanding is that Ruybalid comes from the Basque name Ulibarri, and that Antonio was the son of Juan Ruybalid who came from Spain, probably the Basque country (there is a town Ulibarri in Spain). Angelita was the daughter of Dolores Montoya, an Indian who had been married to a Mexican named Francisco Estrada. Antonio's son Francisco Ruybalid is my great-grandfather. I have been to family reunions in the Antonito, Colorado area (the town of Mogote)and we hiked up to Ruybalid Lake. Our branch of Ruybalids were Presbyterian, one of Francisco's sons is a pastor. I got much of my information from research done by my great-uncle Antonio, and am doing further research on the Basque connection. Hope your quest finds the answers you're seeking. Antonio and Angelita apparently had sixteen children, so you must be the grand-daughter of one of them.

Mark - thank you so much for your research. My mother-in-law was Victoria Martinez (father Antonio) and her mother was Avelina Ruybalid born 11/20/1876 in CO. She always wanted to know more about her mother's family so to run across this information was thrilling. They came from Mogote, CO so I am sure they are connected! Again many thanks for your efforts and for sharing information.
