Lola,

See www.geocities.com/karmit007 for a good start. The John and Fannie Armitage family can be found in the link to Armitage in Central NY. I have no proof of Fannie being nee Mooney, can you tell me more about that?

Keith

I am also researching the Armitage surname in upstate NY. Listed are my earliest Armitage's whom I found listed on the 1860 census for Saratoga County:

D. Judson Armitage married to Lydia (Unknown)
John L. Armitage (born between 1827 and 1828 married to Hannah (Unknown) about 1848. 2nd marriage to Fannie Bowles
Harvey Armitage married to Maria (Unknown)
Highland Armitage married to Catherine (Unknown)

My actual interest is in my great grandfather, MASON ELIAS ARMITAGE (born 1873 in Providence, Saratoga County, NY) married to Mary Agnes Smith. To date, I have not found out who his parents are but do have further info on the families listed above. Do I have a tie in with any of your research?
Thanks, Mary

Mary -

I am helping my grandchildren work on their genealogy. They are descended from Mason Armitage through his daughter Marion.

Was wondering if you have had any success in tracking Mason? Since he was a farmer in Galway most of his adult life, I have sent for his death certificate there. They have no record of his or wife Mary's death.

Although I don't have many notes to compare at this point, would love to share.

Thanks - Jamie Fugate

Hi Mary, I am interested in the message you posted quite some time ago regarding John Armitage.
"John L. Armitage (born between 1827 and 1828 married to Hannah (Unknown) about 1848. 2nd marriage to Fannie Bowles".
If you view the 1850 Pa.Warren.Spring Creek census below, you will note, I believe your John and Fanny. Also, note the William Armitage two farms down. He is my GGG grandfather. I am trying to make a connection between the two families of John and William Armitage.

I find this same John Armitage living at the same farm on the 1860 census with a wife named Sophia. 1880 Census shows Sophia and sons living on the farm, John apparently has passed away.
Could this be your John and Fanny ? Would love any additional information if you would like to exchange.

Mary -

We had corresponded last year about Mason Armitage. Could not remember if I had let you know that I now have his marriage certificate to Mary A. Smith. Mason's parents are listed as John E. Armatage and Laura Mason. They were in Providence census in 1870.

Looks to me that John E. is the son of John L. and Hannah of Galway.

Did you ever make the connection between John & William? I am John's great-great grandfather. I'd appreciate any info.

Yes,I made a connection to my William. But it may NOT be your John. I finally was able to connect with an "Armitage" cousin in Pennsylvania. We exchanged data, they had a two volumn book written about my Armitage line. It conclusively linked John Armitage b.03 May 1824 in Milford/Middlefield,Otsego Cnty, N.Y., to my William Armitage b.Abt. 1823 in Milford/Middlefield,Otsego Cnty, N.Y., as brother's.They were the son's of Isaac Armitage b. Abt. 1803 in Milford/Middlefield,Otsego Cnty, N.Y.. Isaac was the son of William Armitage b.1748 in England. John and William both married sister's. My William married Philinda Vincent, and John married Fannie Vincent. Fannie Vincent Armitage died in child birth in 1850, their son survived. I have extensive notes and data on this Armitage line. If you are interested, please provide your email address and I will forward data. Also, my tree is posted on Ancestry.com as

It wouldn't be a match then. According to census records, my Fanny was born abt. 1853. If you come across any info. on the Armitage's from Galway (Saratoga County), NY - I'd appreciate if you'd pass it along. Thanks!

Do, you have the ancestry of your John Armitage, father, grandfather, etc? I do believe that in general, I have found a similar history to these N.Y. Armitage lines. For instance, what is the "family stories" regarding their country of origin, etc. I have a in my notes that my "William b. 1844 came from England with his brother George. They arrived in one of the New England states and migrated thru N.Y. and Pennsylvania". Most of this I have found to be true to most of the N.Y. Armitages.... just need to link them. Trisha
