I am looking for any help on finding the port and/or family of Frederick Baier b.1845 in Germany. Immigration & port dates unknown. He married Katherine Braun in 1867 in Chicago, Ill. He started his own Jewelry business in Chicago in 1866. (He was on the other side of the river during the fire.)
He moved his business and family to Salina, Kansas in 1878.

Any early help would be appreciated.
Thank, Ann

Frederick Baier would have been from Württemberg, Germany, southern Germany. My Gr-gr grandfather, Thomas Baier, was also from this region. I believe they might have come via New Orleans, as many Swiss immigrants came in via that route also. I don't have any information on him specifically. My family members also eventually settled in Victoria and Ellis Kansas.

In the 1910 Census Frederick (65) states he arrived in the US in 1866, and states that he was a naturalized, but not when. Katherine (spelled Catherine in 1910 Census) also arrived in 1866. Katherine (68) had 12 children, 4 of whom lived. In the 1910 Census they also listed one 18 year old son who was adopted. The house is listed as 120 S Seventh St in Saline Kansas.

Katherine lists her birthplace as U Hessen, probably Hessen-Darmstadt in Germany in the 1880 Census.
