Majka Family, Baltimore

Majka Family, Baltimore

Surnames: Majka
Looking for any information on the Majka family living in Baltimore, MD. I am specifically looking for information on Doris Majka (who married Chester Zakroski).

I have found a line of Majka's and am trying to connect Doris to them. The line that I am looking at starts with Anthony/Andrew Majka who married Josephine (not sure if her last name is Beczkozcki or Belkowstia). Their children are William, Helen, Frances, Stanley, Anthony, Joseph, Bernard, Walter, and Doris.

Does anyone have any concrete info on this family and possibly who this Doris married or her DOB/DOD that I can match "my" Doris with? Does anyone have anything further down the line past the parents, like where they came from, etc?

Thanks!

Anthony/Andrew Majka who married Josephine
Hello,
We have an Andrew and a Josepha ( JOsephine) in our blood line.(I think I have a picture of Josepha)
Originally from Ontario Canada.. moved to Chicago and had a business there. Many kids born there.. most passed on due to a flu epidemic. Then the family moved back to ONtario. Barry;s Bay area, and had more kids.
MAJKA is mispelled MAIKA on canada census and gravestones.
Canada census info is all free on line thru the canadian government websites.
There is an Andrew MAika in Barry's Bay MANY MANY MANY MAIKA's in Barry;s Bay *S*
My Grandma was EVA Majka who married Joseph BADERSKI.
( Bederski, bedersky, Badersky) WHo was actually born in Scotland on the way to North America.
Came up the ST LAwrence river to Quebec and went further west to northern Ontario.
Eva (Majka) Married Joseph BAderski
Josephs father was Stanley ( Stanislaus) Baderski
His wife was Maryanne.
Eva's parents (Majka) show on the census as AUSTRIAN.

Sincerely Susan

Joseph Badersky/Bederski was my Great Grandfather. I Heard a similar story about him. He was from Barrys Bay in Ontario, I still have some relatives there. He lived in Chicago for a little while where he owned a bar I believe. He became blind in his older years. Joseph was married twice, the children from one his wives changed their name from Bederski to Bedesky to differentiate themselves from their step siblings. My Grandfather, Anthony was born a Bederski near Pog Lake but changed his name to Bedesky. Anthony Bedesky lived and had his family near Welland, ON

Surnames: BACIOK, BASIOC, BASIAC, Baderski, Badersy, Badesky, Badeski, Majka, Maika,
I am Joseph Baderski's grand daughter. I have done allot of research on the family line. Baderski IS the spelling. Family stories, have a couple possible reasons why.(depending who you talk to *s*)
His second wife was EVA MAIKA- later I proved that the spelling was MAJKA.. and apparently on the census etc the bottom half of the J was lost. I proved this relationship to relatives thru gravestones in Ontario (online) I found a common relative with spouse that was POSITIVELY a MAIKA but spelled MAJKA. Many MAJKAs still live in Barry's Bay area. Thru census I was able to confirm that Joseph Baderski's 2cnd wife's family was from AUSTRIA. His first wife was DUDENSKI and she left him a widower with about 6 kids. Eva later married him and they had more kids. Joseph had businesses in Chicago off and on and his father STANLEY did too and Stanley died in Chicago. He was hit by a car apparently and I found the notice once.
Baderski is not your true family name *s*
When the brothers came from the old country, they changed their last name before coming to North America. Because relatives at the time of Eva;s death acquired paperwork, but didnt share it, no one knows IF there is any documentation about the actual NAME.
and I have an old letter is signed (in writing) either BACIOK or BASIOC or BASIAC. To which the letter seems to be written by the AUNT to JOseph, so You COULD assume that Josephs AUNT may or may not have had the true last name.(depending on her relation) It was signed "Jozefa and Stas Baciok. I do have a Josepha (lady) in my genealogy .
The address on one letter from Chicago, from Stanley Baderski has the address, SO 1380 Wood Street Chicago Ilinois dated Nov 1931. You can still GOOGLE Street map it *S*

Joseph's brother moved to Winnipeg Manitoba and raised a family there and had something to do with the school board.

Joseph and his Brother and Stanley ( father) came to Canada and I have the passenger list *S* They came from PRUSSIA and spoke Polish and German. Poland changed boundaries so many times people got lost with it. But our people came from Prussia.(confirmed)
So they came from Prussia and his wife Eva came from Austrian decent. And Joe's first wifes gravestone is online from Ontario under Dudenski.
They all owned property up there back in the day. Stanley and Joseph did logging. Joseph lost his eyesight using explosives pulling up a stump, probably to lay track. They drove him to Ottawa to specialists, the doctor used too much of the medicine and burned his eyes. After that life was much harder.

In Closing, Joseph was LEGALLY SCOTTISH. * S*
While en route to north america they stopped in Scotland. Stayed for some reason, for a while, and Joseph was BORN THERE.

If YOU are a young lady that was recently in college, I had probably emailed you a few years ago. *S*
Sincerely Susan PS: THIRD PICTURE= young lady is Josepha MAIKA (Majka)

I don't think I was the one you spoke to before, but I really appreciate the info!

I am from the Dudenski side of the family. My Grandfather, Tony, was I believe the youngest of her children, I know she died when he was quite young. My grandfather always told us stories about her being his guardian angel :)

I knew there was some Scottish in my lineage but wasn't sure about my blood. I did hear a tale about mail fraud in Prussia being involved in the name change... My Uncle has an old trunk inscribed with the original name. I'll have to ask him about the spelling next time I see him.

Another Interesting tidbit I have is that somehow we are related to Gene Krupa, the big band drummer, through marriage during the Chicago years. My dad, Mark Bedesky, knows the details on that better than I do.

Hi Alicia,
GF PULEASE get back to me on that NAME.
I have been searching and hounding and stalking relatives for years.
There is an Uncle Donald that apparently has a pile of paperwork but wont talk to anyone, and is becoming a recluse.

I have pictures of Dudenski, I have census records, I have (I think) their wedding photo. I have to look to be sure. I have photos of the gravestones too which is actually pretty ...unique and informative.
I have been doing this since Windows 95. !!!!
Please email me so we can exchange info /pics easier.
Take note it is HUSHMAIL (not hotmail)

One is Tony Baderski and the other I am pretty sure is Him too.
Im good at matching faces, but everybody is so old now they say they cant be sure about the second one.
BUT
You can see THE SAME facial characteristics and the hair is combed the same style and color. *Keep in mind black and white negatives get REVERSED sometimes when they are printed see? So it shows he parts his hair on the other side.
But you can see the eyes are the same, the puffyness under the eyes, the ears, the face shape etc etc .. I think the second one is Tony too, just caught in a more attractive snapshot. *S*

Hi Alicia,

Please give my regards to your father (Mark) and mom (Angela). When visiting my father's cottage on Golden Lake approximately 10 years ago, my father and I visited an old cemetery close to Wilno. Your great-grandmother is buried there. I wish I could remember the spelling of the name on her memorial stone but I am only guessing at this point (Baedeski). Also, a young child is buried beside her (11 or 12 years old). This young child would be your Grandfather (Tony)'s sister.

Hope this information helps.

Thank you so much for the pictures, that is definitely my grandpa. My cousin Niles is the spitting image of him. I still haven't seen my uncle but I will ask him about the spelling next time I see him.
