Edward: I am originally from London, now a Canadian for many, many years. My father, Thomas Shears, had 2 brothers in London (Fulham) - Charles and Jack. I also think there were 2 sisters - Nell and Bess.

Hi Edward, I live in Missouri and my grandfather was a Shears, his name was Leo Edward Shears. My great grandfather's name was Peter Leo Shears and his wife was named Lennie (Gruggin) Shears, they also had a daughter named Letha Marie Shears (Skinner), she married and divorced. There is only about 4 or 5 families left still alive in our family here. I do not know much about the family. My grandfather passed away before he had a chance to discuss the family history with us.

Sinally I found a Shears with some kind of connection to Missouri. My great grandfather John W Shears was born in Illinois in 1839. He had a brother named Harrison born in Illinois about 1845. They were both in Texas about 1860. From there I lost track of Harrison but my great grandfather went to Indian Territory (Oklahoma) I know he was there in 1900 and died there in 1913. Maybe this can help you and if you have any info I would appreciate it. Thanks Nora in Texas

Edward/Cynthia. My name is Keith Harry Shears. I am new to this and I don’t know whether I am to late to send a message. I noticed on the posting On the 5 Sept 2002 that Cynthia mentions her father being Thomas Shears and that he had two brothers Jack and Charles and two sisters Nell and Bess all born in Fulham. My father Harry Shears born in Fulham had two brothers and two sisters Jack, Charles, Nell and Bess, bit of a coincidence! all of which came from Fulham as did most of my immediate family. Could it be that you are not aware of Harry (my father) and I of your father (Thomas) it would appear that they could be brothers and I have an uncle and a cousin that I did not know about

Welcome Keith! If you're new to genealogy you'll discover it's never too late to answer anyone!! Everyone is always waiting for any answers to their posts!

What a great way to start out! To discover how close a match you have to the others! Sure hope it works out you're all related.

I don't fit in as my way back grandpa was a Shears/Shars/Shares (from all spellings I've found connected to him)from NY State.

Many thanks for responding Ruth it’s good to know that the system works and who knows we may work our way back to a common background – doubt if it is Royalty though! I look nothing like our Queen or her offspring.

Ruth - My family (Shears in Michigan) came from New York, and some of them also spelled the name Shars and Shares.

Any chance that your family and mine might be related?
I am researching the Jacob & Samantha (Chapman) Shears family who lived in Niagara Co. NY, then Canada, and then in Port Huron Co. Michigan. Their children included: Ann Shears (m. Isaac Miller, m. Nelson Fox); Lucinda Shears (m. Cyrus Pringle); Charles Reuben Shears (m. Kathryn Cave, m. Martha J. Unknown, m. Bessie Engle); John Shears; twins Theadore Shars (m. Maggie Unknown, m. Elizabeth Margaret Bennett); Theadosia Shears (m. Lewis Potts); Edward Shears; Sheldon Shears; and Leroy James Shears (m. Mary Elizabeth Malyon). There may also have been three other daughters.
