Mystery surrounding Lewis Carroll and Jane Wheeler

Any help is appreciated on the following.

1850 Watauga County NC Census lists the following in the same household;

Mary Carroll 63
Lewis Carroll 33
George Carroll 26
Jane Wheeler 44
Harrison Wheeler 11
Mary Wheeler 9
Nancy Carroll 32

Daniel Wheeler (my ancestor) receives a letter written to him in 1857 from Lewis Carroll (above all moved to Missouri) informing him of his mother Jane Wheeler's death. Letter is addressed to Daniel Wheeler, Cleveland Carroll and Dennis Carroll.

Recently received the results from FamilytreeDNA (67 marker test) and no Wheelers are listed but quite a few Carrolls, with a exact match at the 12 and 25 marker, and a genetic distance of 1 on the 67 marker. Also the Harrison Wheeler listed above later changes his name to Harrison Carroll. From the trees i have found, a John Carroll (b.1755) is listed as the father of Lewis Carroll, Cleveland, and Dennis Carroll. But the trees listed with my DNA tests show a Luke Carroll (b.1770) as my ancestor. I have yet to find a link between the two except they both live in Virginia about the same time.
