PETERSEN-ERICKSEN----Frederiksborg-----SS Hector

I am looking for Martha PETERSEN and Lewis ERICKSEN who are both in Ohio, USA, in 1910. Martha had siblings Russell, Sam, and Tilda (married a Bureaguard?). Lewis had siblings Joe and Agnes. Martha's parents stayed in Denmark. Lewis' mother came to America, I believe. Family stories say both were born in Copenhagen, however, I have found a Martha born 1 Sep 1884 (right year) in Horsholm, Frederiksborg, Denmark, daughter of Hans Lauritz PETERSEN and Marie Sophie ERIKSEN (coincidence in name!). Also, Lewis served on the SS Hector from age 14-21 (approx 1989-1905) traveling back and forth to Philadelphia with animal hides, bones, and skulls for a fertilizer plant. According to family lore, he "jumped ship," thus there is no immigration record. I also cannot find any record for Martha's immigration. Help?

Can I make a suggestion? I found the Ohio death records for Louis (15 Jun 1948) and Martha (08 Aug 1937) Ericksen both in Canton Ohio. It lists Martha's birthdate as 03 Apr 1884 in Denmark and her parents as Peter Petersen and MaryAnn.

I found an emigration record for Marthe Kristine Pedersen from Endelave Aarhus (Endelave is apparently a small island and the records are found in Skanderborg Amt). She registered on 6-1-1904 to travel to Canton Ohio on the Hellig Olav.

I found a birth record in the parish register for Endelave, Nim, Skanderborg for a Martha Kristine Pedersen born on April 3 1884 to parents Peder Jorgensen and Mariane Mikkelsen. (I suspect that the people in Ohio were not familiar with the Danes patronymic naming system and just assumed that her father's last name would be the same as hers)

Anyway, if you think this might be the right Martha and would like copies of the records I found, just let me know.

WOW! I am so impressed! My 75 yo mother tells me Martha died at age 42, 1926, but I have no confirmation of her memory. Yes, I have tried to understand the Danish naming style, not successfully. Did you find all this in one day or did you have this info as part of your family--are we related? Now I need to find her parents on a census and hope the siblings match. Yes, please do send me copies of your info. What can I do for you in exchange? And, of course, let me know if I owe you anything for your copies. Thank you so much! Debbie Tester

Hi. No I'm not related, just glad to help. You can contact me directly at and I'll forward what I found to you. (I think that I may have found Louis' birth record too)
