My gggrandmother was a Samantha Coon who in 1831 married Luke Wells in Palmyra, Wayne Co., NY. In 1840 they were living in Onondaga County. In 1850 they were found in Marion Co.,Ohio and in 1860 they were in Riceville, Mitchell Co.,Iowa. I have never been able to find either of their family so I am hoping this will help.Where did you find this information? I will appreciate any help you can give me. Verna

Dear Verna,
I am sorry to say that your Samantha and my Samantha are two different people. They verywell could be kin though. I found a marriage of my Samantha Coon and my gggrandfather James Smith of England in William Beauchamps book. Early marriages of Central New York published in early newspapers. Also in 1850 my Samantha was still in Mount Morris Twp. Livingston Co. Ny as she was in 1840 with her husband and in 1860 she was all alone. My information is from the census records. I hope this helps you and I'm sorry I couldn't give you a line on your coon family.

Sincerely,
Alan O. Payne

Dear Coon researchers,
I have information on the Kuhn/Coon families descended from Hans Kuhn of Huttengesass,Hesse-Nassau,Germany,who was the father of the 1710 Palatine emigrant,Samuel Kuhn.Another Samuel changed the spelling to Coon in 1765 and served in the N.Y.State Militia during the Revolutionary War.He was my seventh g'grandfather.I have the Koon and Coons Families of Eastern N.Y. book, published in 1937.It is known to have flaws, but still contains much useful information on families with several variations of the name Kuhn.Let me know if I can be of help.

Hello Rick,

I am thinkful that you are trying to help in finding out about the KUHN/COON family name in NY. I hope you can help me find some more links with my COON line. I am searching for a George Coon born around 1780 in NY. I believe in 1800 he was in Onondaga Co in the town of Manlius or Marcellus. In 1810 Onondaga Co a George Coon was said to be 45 years or older with two females, one age 26 to 45 and another one under the age of 10. I know for sure A George Coon was in Skaneateles, Onondaga Co. NY in 1830 (Census record M19 ROLL 100). Also a George Coon was in Columbia Co, Clairmont twp in 1790. My gggGrandfather/mother was George and Nancy Coon and I think George and Nancy had many other children such as William, Thomas, Cyrus, George JR., Samantha(my ggGrandmother), Ursula, Harriet, and Mary Ann. I know Mary Ann, Harriet and Samantha were sisters, but I haven't proven the relationship of the other coons I've mentioned. They all were married within 10 years of one another and in the same general area. (Skaneateles, NY Onondaga Co.) Any assistance you can give me on these people would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,
Alan O. Payne

Thank you so much for answering right away. Yes, I would like to have the list of Georges. I found some information on the Skaneateles, Onondaga Co. NY US GEN WEB web page that list the death dates for george and nancy as such. George died on Oct 9 1864 in Skaneateles and Nancy his wife died on Dec 07 1853 in Skaneateles. Also the Thomas I mentioned married a Nancy Fidelia Clark so that now looks to be three different Nancy Coons and two different Georges. Maybe my georges fathers name was also george. Do you have any other information on the George and Nancy you gave me?

Let me thank you again for your help.
Alan.
