Revolutionary War veteran Garrett McQuillen and his wife Elizabeth (Lutz) McQuillen lived near what is today Tyrone, Blair Co. Pennsylvania. His pension papers and the 1810 census suggest there were 12 or 13 children. There must be a veritable army of descendants existing today. Problem is with due diligent search there does not seem to be any primary documentation listing the children of this couple. Contextual evidence suggests the following are some of their children:
1. Richard (b.c. 1788) descendants last noticed in PA and Wisconsin. unknown wife
2. Phoebe (b. c. 1791) unknown descendants
3. John (b.c. 1796) descendants Clearfield Co. PA and Iowa. wife Mary Ann Van Zandt
4. Matilda (b.c. 1796) descendants western PA. husband: Adam Freeman
5. Joseph L. (b.c. 1800-01) descendants western PA Mercer and Butler Co.wife: Elizabeth Patterson
6. Garrett (b.c. 1807) descendants Iowa and Kansas wives: Anna Harter and Susannah Fry.
7. George W. (b.c. 1808)_ descendants western PA Clearfield Co. wife Jane (Waite/Weight?)
8. Thomas (b.c.1810) descendants Clearfield Co. PA. wife Jane Hunter
other children unknown.
Civil War pension papers of possibe grandchildren of Garrett and Elizabeth often speak of records in Family Bibles. Anyone out there with possible connections and documentation?

You list in this post a John McQuillen with a wife, Mary Ann Van Zant. I have a John McQuillan, wife Mary Ann Van Zant, and children, Garrett and Phoebe in my family. John died and is buried in PA while Mary Ann traveled to Iowa with her children and her daughter's husband's family. Please contact me if you believe this is the same family. I have been trying to find info about and his parents.

This is your family. John McQuillen born in PA, 20 July 1794 and died in Burnside Township, Clearfield Co. PA on 30 August 1853. Buried in the Mt. Joy United Brethren in Christ Cemetery in Burnside Tp. Final Account papers in my possesion filed Clearfield Co. PA on 30 May 1859 list three children: Garrett, Phebe and Morgan (never found what happened to Morgan). Administrator of Final Account was Israel Rorabaugh, husband of John's daughter Phebe and later of Jasper County, Iowa. I do not have Mary Ann VanZant McQuillen uplines but are likely of 1600s New Netherlands/New York Dutch stock that descended from immigrant Gerret/Garrett VanZandt who died in very early 1700s in Bucks Co. PA. I have much information on the McQuillens. Please contact. I am not an ancestry member so contact arschroeder@cox.net
