Waiting Thread - June 2013

New month! Time for a new DNA test waiting thread.

(The last one seems to have disappeared. Moderator, please advise us of any issues?)

Per the last waiting thread, average wait times for autosomal test results seem to be holding steady at around two weeks. (Unless you count my great aunt's test, which took about five weeks before being rejected.)

For those new to the game, this is a place to worry/rejoice/ponder over the wait for results once the spitting is done. All test takers are welcome: autosomal, yDNA, or mtDNA. For the benefit of fellow fretters, please try to include when you sent in your kit, when it arrived at the lab, and when you got your results.

Additional info (who tested, how long it took for the test to ship to your home, how much fun you had checking to make sure it wasn't all bubbles at the black line on the vial, etc.) is cool, if you want to share.

I'm still waiting for my great aunt to re-drool (that's totally a word), so I'm waiting to wait!

My stats on my Mother's test.

Ordered 5.14.13
Shipped 5.15.13
Arrived and drooled in 5.20.13 (Approximate date. Original lost to the previous thread's unexplained deletion)
Returned 5.21.13 (Approximate date for the same reason)
Lab Processing 5.31.13
Processing complete sometime between 2200 5.18.13 and 0500 5.19.13.

I'm a happy camper.

How long does lab processing usually take? I can't remember.

I don't recall either and I don't think a reference from months ago is going to be all that accurate now anyway.

I believe that with the price drop and the big Mother's Day push the lab may be a little backed up. The 10 +/- days between mailing the sample back and having it registered in the lab is a little excessive even for USPS so I think it may have sat in an incoming mail bin in the lab's mailroom for a bit. Who knows where it's sitting now.

In the other waiting thread that got deleted, most people seemed to get their results in 10-17 days. 14 seemed about norm.

Cool. You'll have your hands full for a while just wading through your results. Don't forget to move the Relationship Slider all the way to the right to expose all the low confidence matches.

Enjoy.
