I am county coordinator for Wise Co Virginia and in my death certificates for 1912-1918 I came across the following death certificate:

Paul Raddatz born 5/23/1889 born Wisconsin.
Died- 5/15/1917 in Wise Co, Virginia
Cause- "hemorrhage-throat cut jugular vein left side with safety razor probably suicide, lived 20 minutes"

Occupation is listed as "comedian"

Father - William Raddatz born Germany
Mother-Bertha Riesing born Germany
Informant- Alfred Raddatz Milwaukee Wis.

Paul's death notices were placed in the local morning and evening German papers beginning May 19, as well as the customary thank you notices on May 24, 1917.

For some additional family info., his mother Bertha (née Reising) Raddatz died in Milwaukee in May 1920. The family's death notices were also published in the local German newspapers and include her maiden name; again, with the customary thank you notices. There were notices for a William/Wilhelm in 1912. And there are references to an Alfred with some other Raddatz entries found in "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950).
