In the early part of 1860 and 1861 the Lannom family that lived in Wilson Co., Rutherford County and a few surrounding counties in Middle Tennessee split over the issue of loyalty to the United States vs loyalty to the south. At least three families and probably more moved to Illinois from Tn. Several who moved joined the U.S. Army and fought for the north. Those who remained in Tennessee generally supported the southern cause. Three of my great grand dad Robert Tillman Lannom"s brothers moved to Ill. and fought for the U.S. One of those was a Green Lannom who later ran a cemetary in Ill. Will have to look for my info on this. The Nashville Librarian is related to some of the Lannoms in Lebanon, Tn (Wilson Co.) She is located in the Nashville Room at the Nashville Public Library (main branch) in Nashville, Tn. She can put you in touch with a cousin who is a Lannom who has much of the family history in Wilson County, Tennessee., Cousin Dick Dickerson

Hello, I believe we are distant cousins. My mother was Evelyn Mayfield Dickerson of Smyrna, Tn in Rutherford Co., Tn. Her parents were L.S. Mayfield and Gertrude Lannom Mayfield. Gertrude Lannom's father was Robert Tillman Lannom. His father was Tillman Wilson Lannom 1799-1875 married to Mary McPeak in 1820 . His father was James Lannom Jr 1750-1820 married Susanna H Lannom 1765-1852. They were cousins. His parents were James Lannom Sr died 1784 Caswell Co., NC and Mrs. Summers. Susanna's parents were Leonard Lanham and Tabitha Bywater born 1750. James Lannom Sr's parents were William Lanham Born 1699(Md) and Elizabeth. His father was John Lanham Born 1640 (Va. or Md.) Most all Lannoms in Tennessee trace back to Susanna. Wilson Co., Tn is the home Co for many Lannoms.

I just saw your Lannom post and I have a lot of Lannom information on your Presley Lannom.

I am descended from Leonard Lannom and Tabitha Bywater. Presley Lannom was a son of Nathan Lannom and Elizabeth Thorn. Nathan was a son of James Lannom and Susannah Lannom. Susannah was a daughter of Leonard Lannom and Tabitha Bywater. Presley's wife's name is Mary Caroline Alsup.

The original surname spelling was LANHAM, but got changed to LANNOM on deeda and the migration from Caswell Co., NC to Wilson Co., TN.

I have "Tarpley" not Tapley in my database.

I would like to exchange my Lannom information with you. Contact me at clannom@fuse.net.
Thank you.

Simon,
I just saw your 2000 Lannom post and I believe we are related through LEONARD LANHAM and TABITHA BYWATER.

I am a descendant of Susannah Lannom/James Lannom>John C. Lannom/Catherine??>John R. Wilson Lannom/Mary Ann Barber> John R. Lannom//Mary Ann Bilbro>Wilson Lafayette Lannom/Ruby D. Phillips all from Wilson Co., TN.

I have a lot of Lannom/Lanham information and would be eager to exchange with you. I have been researching my Lannom's for the past 20 years and have been to NC getting documents, deeds, etc., etc.

Please contact me at clannom@fuse.net.

Thank you.
