Seeking early "first familes" on the Medway (Nickatou Plantation) East and West Branch of the Penobscot River in 1830 to 1865 time frame. Currently have York, Powers, Thompson, Caswell other names to share. We have a copy of the Medway, Maine History by Harold Beathem which outlining many Medway families. Henry David Thoreau's book "The Maine Woods" mentions Ben Fisk in Nickatou briefly in his August 1846 expedition. Would like to share information with others on this lumbering town.

I'm looking for info on Charles Powers(McCobb). He was the greatgrandfather of Merle Powers, son of Henry Powers and Clara Hamlin. My aunt ,Orissie Faloon, told me that Charles Powers might have actually been born Charles McCobb. He was born in Georgetown in 1797. Georgetown is in Cumberland county, but Merle Powers was born in Penobscot county in Medway. Thank you.

I have a ggg-grandparents Charles Powers m. Fanny Proctor. They are buried in Pine Tree Cemetery (also known as The Old Medway Cemetery) in Medway. I believe his father was Patrick Powers. Charles and Fanny Powers had a son, Andrew Reed Powers aho married Mary Howard. Would any of these lines be something that you are connected with? I really need any info that is available.
Thanks. Sue

We are wondering if you have come across any early settlers on the Penobscot River with the surnames of Gordon or Bagley. John Gordon was a lumberman in the area in 1840 and moved to CA in 1853. We would like to find more info. re. John Gordon. Thank you

Thanks so much for your response. The John Gordon you wrote about must be a different one. My John Gordon did not have a middle initial, and he married Harriet Bagley in 1840.

Hi,
I am researching Patrick Powers too. Im descended from his son Michael Powers, who married a Louisa Lovejoy.
I have little information on the Powers branch of the family, but will share whatever I have.

I have Patricks wifes (sorry about the punctuation folks, for some reason this particular site isnt allowing appostrophes) anyway her name was Hannah Reed, I dont know for sure if that is her actual maiden name, since I found it on Rootsweb somewhere, and put it down as a possibility.

You can see my main site at

(this computer wont allow me to put the forward slashes in either so send me an email requesting the url to my site, and I will gladly send it to you.
