It sounds exactly like the "guy" I'm inquiring about. Could I write via email to find out more about where you found out this information? Are you connected to the Anson family?

Hi -
I have the Civil War Records for Levi Anson from the National Archives and have extracted the following information:
Levi was b.May 13, 1836 (re: afv. in 1912) or 1829 -1841 (re: two afv. in June 1877, or from his I.D. his age was given as 36y in 1865. [Don't think he knew his own age!] He died June 16, 1913 at the NYS Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Bath, Stueben Co., NY. Levi enrolled Oct. 22, 1861 in Co.H 57th Regt. of PA. Vol. He enlisted at Great Bend, PA on Dec. 31, 1863 in Co. A 57th Regt. PA Vol. He was discharged at Alexandria, VA on June 29, 1865. In 1865 his I.D. was given as 36 yrs. old; 5'8"; complexion light; hair light; eyes blue.
Levi was wounded by gunshot through left thigh on Dec. 13, 1862 at Battle of Fredericksburg, VA. He was treated in hospitals as follows: 1st in field hosp. at Fredericksburg; 2nd at Ascension Gen. Hosp. in Washington, DC - he was then sent home for 60 days and then returned to Stanton Hosp., Washington, DC on March 19, 1863. He re-enlisted after his discharge into Co.A.
Since leaving the service he has resided in the Town of Berkshire, Tioga Co. (one paper says Niagra Co.??), NY. His occupation was given as "farmer". He suffered from deafness - several statements from men in service with him claim he starting getting deaf soon after the Battle of Gettysburg from a "gathering in his head, and a discharge from his ears."
In 1912 he was in the Home at Bath, NY where he died in 1913.
He m. 1st Liddie Ann Conrad. She d. in Berkshire, NY on Jan. 27, 1891.
He m. 2nd Martha Saddlemin on May 7, 1896 in the Town of Berkshire, NY by M.F. Rich, JP.
Samantha Jane b.July 22, 1879
Frank D. b. Nov. 10, 1881

In the 1850 census - Twn. Great Bend, Susquehanna Co., PA he was living with his parents:
Silas Anson 44, farmer, b.NY
Susannah Anson 39, b. MA
Abraham Anson 19, farmer, b. NY
Henry Anson 17, farmer, b.NY
Phebe Ann Anson 16, b.NY
Leonard Anson 14, b.NY
John Anson 13, b.NY
Lucinda Anson 12, b.NY
Parmela (or Parmelia) Anson 10, b.NY
Levi Anson 8, b. NY ****
Mary Jane Anson 7, b.NY
M DeLafayette Anson 5, b.NY

In the 1880 census - Berkshire, Tioga co., NY:
Levi Anson age 38, b. NY
Lydia A. Anson age 38, wife, b.NY
Samantha J. Anson, 10 mos. old, dau. b.NY

Think this is the same Levi Anson - but not positive....
1900 Census - Twn. of Elbridge, Onondaga Co., NY:
Levi Anson age 68, b. May 1832, b.NY
Living alone - age is off by 10 years but still think it might be him - he never seemed to get his age right in any records!!

Hope you find this helpful and interesting.
