I'm searching for the parents and siblings of William Thomas Goin, born in Kentucky about 12 Aug 1838 and his parents born in Georgia. He died about 1905 in Turkey Creek Community, Ellis Co., OK.

Based on the 1870 and 1880 Tarrant Co., TX, and the 1900 Creek Nation, Indian Territory (Oklahoma) census, he listed his birthplace as Kentucky and his parents birthplaces as Georgia.

There are family stories that he served as a Confederate soldier and was wounded. I have a military record for a "William Goin", 3rd corpl.; Commanding Officer, 1st Lieut. M. W. McLamore; Co. D, 9th Regt.; TC, Col. N. W. Townes, Comdg., CSA; Enlist: Oct. 14-61 at Camp Reeves R&F 61; Co. sta. at Camp Rogers, near Holly Springs, Miss. O.31-62. I cannot validate that this is the William Thomas Goin I'm researching.

About 1870, he married Elizabeth Ann Cannon. They had five known children born in Tarrant County, TX: twins: William Arthur and Willis Oscar, 1871; James Hunter, 1872; Anna Belle, 1876; and Walter Lawrence, 1880. Elizabeth Ann Cannon's parents lived in Tarrant Co. TX and she had two other daughters from a previous marriage, Jo Ella Watson, 1860 and Nancy Lou Watson, 1862.

My grandmother (Anna Belle Goin Young) always claimed she was "Black Dutch", explaining the reason for her dark skin. Some of William Thomas Goin's descendants suspect he may be part indian based on his straight black hair, high cheek bones and dark olive skin.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jim, I found an old broken headstone in a garage here in Ellis County, OK and have been searching for almost a year, trying to return it to it's rightful place. It reads as follows: John Goin, 15 January 1852 - 29 August 1913, "There are no partings in Heaven." PLEASE tell me this fits with your William Thomas GOIN family. Sharon

I'm not aware of a Benjamin Franklin Goin. Perhaps, you may wish to post a query and provide any known data on his birth, marriage, place of residence(s) and death. It would also help if you would post any known data on his parents.

My mother, Trulah Gertrude Goin's father is Paul Goin of Idaho. He died in 1939, I believe in a car accident. His children know very little about his side of the family. One sister thought Paul's father's name was Benjamin Franklin and knew they came from Tennessee. There is a Fred Smith which makes me think Benjamin's wife's name is Sarah Smith. They adopted Leroy Smith in the 1900's. This is a difficult journey since so little is known.

As you can imagine, this is as far as I got. I don't know if these two had children. Finding the connection is difficult since I have no idea who Sarah Smith is and if she has a middle name, what it is.

As far as I can tell, we're all related. There are so many children splintering all over the place. I don't have a wall big enough to lay out all the families. However, the direct line to Daniel and his son Ishom and Susanna Bratcher Goin makes me happy and now I want to know where these people came from initially. Ireland? England? Scotland?
