Paul Jones was my grandfather, his bd 02/03/1888. He was born in gwinnett county Ga. He told my dad he had no siblings and both his parents died when he was small. Now I have no idea what(small means). anyway, I was just wondering if there was an orphange close, that he may have been placed in. He also told my dad a family of Smith's took him in and he worked on their plantation until he was 15 years old. Not sure what county this plantation was in or how old he was when he arrived. He arrived in La. at some point and I can track him in Louisiana in 1917, other than that we know nothing. Anyone can help we are very curious. I am not getting any younger, my dad has passed away, I am 60, and my brother is 67 we are all that is left i feel pretty desperate to find some family out there somewhere.
Thanks.

Pat,
In 1871 Orphan's Home of the Southern Georgia Conference opened in Norcross, Ga and in 1873 it moved to Decatur, Ga. I had relatives that were "supposedly" sent to an orphanage for a short period of time because their parents were destitute. I don't know how true this is but I'm trying to find out and they, too, were from the Jones family.I understand the main source of information from this orphanage is the Methodist Children's Home in Macon, Ga. You might want to check that out. There are a lot of Jones' in Ga. My branch (and several others) are from Harris County and surrounding counties, including the city of Columbus which is in Muscogee Co.. Maybe this will give you a starting point. Good luck.

My family member,Louise Jones, b.1910-21 was there in the 1930 census. She had a brother Casey and a sister Doris that we know of. Her parents were destitute and traveled around alot. My grandmother Icie Brooks Robinson, her cousin, ended up taking care of her once she left the orphanage. You can email if you would like at
