Mt Gt.Grandfather was born (According to census records ) in Wis. He always told his daugther's he was born in Wilaukee but is that the county or the city I do not know.
Now In looking at census records it also says that his father was also born in Wis. All of this is off the 1910 cunsus of New Jersey where he died in Carlstadt .He died at 80 plus years and he worked up until he died .So if anyone know's anything on Herman A Schmidt I thank-you

I found several Herman Schmidt's in Milwaukee, WI but, don't know which is the correct one. His d.o.b. is anywhere from 1853 to 1867!!!

Do you have a copy of his death certificat, or possible a birth record for either of his daughters? Either of these may help to pinpoint his d.o.b.

I haven't found any more on your Herman Schmidt but, I did find a lot of info for his daughter Wilhemina who married Gustav Hackenberg(Hackenberger?). His parents were Emma Hoppe & Otto Hackenberg. Emma's parents were Gustav Hoppe & Henrietta unknown. These people were all living in Jersey City, NJ 1900-1920.

If your Herman A. Schmidt is part of the Louis and Henriette Schmidt family posted in this thread, there are possible matches in the local German papers for his parents. For instance, a close match is a Louis Schmidt, 78 yr, d. 1914. There are about 4000 Schmidt entries in "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950).
