Joseph Fisher b. 4 Aug 1881 in Iowa

Classification: Query
Surnames: Fisher, Meece
Looking for information about Joseph Fisher (or Alfred Josephus). Joseph is the twin of Cephas Albert Fisher (Cephas called himself "Bert"). Father: George M. Fisher, Mother: Rachel Meece Fisher. The children were split up among extended relatives and/or neighbors following their mother's death. Joseph left Iowa with a family, name unknown, headed for Oklahoma in early 1890's (his Iowa family never heard of or from him again). 1900 census for Yudan, Canadian, Oklahoma lists a Joseph Fisher, age 18, b. Aug 1881 in Iowa; but I don't know if this is my Joseph. Any help is much appreciated.

Albert Cephas Fisher's WW I draft registration says he was born 04 August 1881 which matches 1900 census record for Joseph Fisher. Unfortunately no military registration was found for an Alfred Joseph or Joseph Alfred Fisher for same date or a one year variation for WW I. Joseph Fisher was working as railroad laborer in 1900, George M and Charles S Fisher also did railroad work.

Rachel A Fisher and children are listed in Mankato, Jewell Co KS 1885 state census. George M Fisher appears in Mankota in 1895 stating he was married without the family and working the railroad. George M Fisher last found in Jewell County 1915 state census.

Rachel died 6 Mar 1885 in Kansas. The youngest son, Alonzo Addison b. Sep 1884, was adopted by a family named Cubbison after his mother's death; we believe his adoptive mother may have been a friend of Rachel's.
