I am actually tracing two McCarthy lines.
* Charles McCarthy was born @ 1800/1805 - a really rough guess - at Coolboy, Caheragh, Cork. He married before 1821 * Mary O’Sullivan. Their children are:

1)Female McCarthy
2)* Timothy Dennis McCarthy was born 31 July 1821 at Coolboy, Caheragh, Cork, Ireland and died after 1901 in Co.Cork. He married Ainne’( Anne ) Leonard who was born @ 1824 at Barnagowlane, Skibbereen, Co.Cork. ( Barnagowlane is not the village of same name but their homeplace which they inherited from Ainne’s family who had lived there for several generations. It is located in Caheragh near Abbeystrowery and Skibbereen. Timothy was the first of his McCarthy line at Barnagowlane even though there are other McCarthy’s there.) Their children are:

1)Female McCarthy
2)* Florence McCarthy , born March 12, 1850 at Barnagowlane, Skibbereen, Cork. He married February 12, 1881 at Killeenbagh, Skibbereen, Cork to * Ellen McCarthy. He died June 23, 1935 at Barnagowlane and Ellen died there June 24, 1940. ( One of their sons, my grandfather, Daniel Joseph McCarthy, born October 3, 1883 at Barnagowlane, emigrated to US in 1905 and settled in Newton center/Brighton, Mass.)

*Ellen was born 1854 and christened December 27, 1854 at Lissane, Drimoleague, Cork,Ireland . ( I believe St.Comghalls) She has one known sister, Mary McCarthy who married Michael Kiely and emigrated to California where she died 1919. Ellen is the daughter of * Cornelius McCarthy, born @ 1822 at Lissane, Cork,Ireland, and * Mary Collins, born @ 1826 and married @ 1853.
I am interested in learning of any other children for these families and in discovering their own parentage. Any advice, inspiration or information gratefully accepted.

Thank you,
Leila McCarthy Mayberry

Is it a coincidence that my great-grandfather had the name Florence McCarthy? Any relation? I know nothing about him other than that he married my great-grandmother, Jennie Hicks, and was a letter carrier in Cinncinnati, Ohio in 1890, the year my grandmother, Jennie McCarthy was born. Florence and Jennie had four daughters altogether: Jennie, Sue, Lauretta, and Margaret. Apparently, Florence was quite a drinker and a character. He carried a gun and was known to use it when he had too much to drink.

Regarding Cornelius McCarthy .. what were his parents names?

This is probably a long shot but I have a CORNELIUS McCARTHY whose family was from Cork in the early 1800s (and his parents were PATRICK McCARTHY and MARY nee CUTTER?).

By 1843, Cornelius was in the 15th Regt but that is the only details I have on him.

His siblings were named ELLEN, HONORA, CHARLES, JAMES & PATRICK.

Cheers from Down Under :)

I know nothing about Cornelius McCarthy - other than his birthdate - before his marriage in 1853. It would be interesting if your info is him; however, there aren't any records to search for verification. ( I really do wish Southwest County Cork would make their records more accesible to us all!)

Anything you may have to compare the two Corneliuses would be appreciated. My Cornelius was a farmer.

Thank you for your response to my query and the information you have shared.

Unfortunately the information I have is very scant on the McCarthy family.

All I know is:
Father: PATRICK McCarthy (labourer)
Mother: MARY (nee Cutter?) (living in Tyrone in 1843)
Children:
- CHARLES
- JAMES
- PATRICK (was in USA by 1843)
- CORNELIUS (in 15th Regiment by 1843)
- JAMES (in Wales by 1843)
- ELLEN (born abt 1820)
- HONORA (born abt 1793).

ELLEN & HONORA were caught stealing sheep and were sent to Australia as Convicts in 1843 and the above details were taken from Honora's Convict Record (Cork).

Sorry I don't have any other information.
Cheers Bobbie:)

I do not know of Honora in our family or if any of them moved to Wales. I know my grandfather's brother moved to England. All others either migrated to America or remained in Cork.

Timothy and Ainne (Anne) McCarthy did have a daughter, Bridget, born 1890 of whom nothing is known. Wonder if Bridget and Honora might conceivably be the same woman??

Sorry not to have more info for you.

Thanks anyway, my Honorah was born c1820 so do not think she is connected to Bridget.
Worth a try anyway.

Thanks.

Hello,

I too am searching for McCarthy's from County Cork - but the names I have are a bit different that the ones posted in this string.

Cornelius McCarthy and Nora Taylor had a daughter Catherine McCarthy in County Cork, Ireland. Catherine's birthday was either April 16, 1850 or February 18, 1850. She came to the United States and was rumored to have lived with a cousin named Hannah Sweeney shortly while she got on her feet. She later married Patrick Collins, also from County Cork and they lived in Hornell, NY. Patrick Collins was born March 24, 1850 and his father was James Collins.

Does anyone have any information about these McCarthy's? If so, I would love to share information with you.

Thanks,
Katie
