Dupree / Sinquefield Information?

Dupree / Sinquefield Information?

Classification: Query
Surnames: Dupree, Sinquefield
Searching for anyone with memories or information on my grandparents, Barney Arthur Dupree (1892-1963) & Clara Belle Sinquefield (1893-1972) possibly from somewhere around Ashford, AL. The Family Bible is missing & all relatives that would know anything are deceased. Searching for any info on their ancestors, siblings, descendants, marriage, etc. They are both buried in Early County, GA in the Blakely City Cemetery so they obviously moved over there at some point but not sure when or why. I'm told Barney had at least 3 & possibly 4 brothers as well as at least 1 sister. I'm also told Clara had at least 2 sisters & possibly 1 brother. All my attempts at obtaining documentation of any kind have turned up empty. Any help or info would be most appreciated!

Both families around Ashford. Several Duprees but don't know if all are kin. One, Durrell Dupree, about 86 or so
still lives in Ashford area. Others were Eldridge, a blacksmith and Bailey Dupree's father, who started phone co in Ashford, now GRACEBA. One Sinquefield in Ashford, was Olin
who was active in produce during the 30's and 40's. One
Sinquefield in Dothan is eye doctor. Look in Ashford area cem data as that is online under Houston County and is
current till 1968. Enter through the Jackson Co, FL website.
According to my research, Dupree was Dupre, in SC/VA and
was Huguenot. Those records accessible through Fam Tree
Maker CD's on that group. The early Ashford census is online and is hard to work your way through with all the zooming. Find those two families through the cem andcensus data.

My Grandfather, Julius William Adkinson(Atkinson) owned land adjacent to the Dupree family in Ashford. He was born in 1892 and married Cora Gashaw in 1911. His mother was Ida K. Thomas, born in 1874 and his father was William P. Adkinson. William P. owned the land prior to Julius. Any information on the Adkinson family from Ashford would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. L. The Herndons still live in the Haleburg-Abbeville, AL area.
Two Herndon cousins have gasoline-convenience store chains. The one that died a few mo ago had the CITGO and the other has the Shell chain, here in on I-!0 in NW FL.
You might be able to get the Henry Co Cem data online.
I do know that part of it is online.

Do you have the Township, Sec, Range of the land? Might help some if I had it. My dad, who lives in Ashford, is 87 but knows and has known most famlies in the area. Akinson/
Atkinson in that area does not ring a bell for me but will keep
my eyes open for anything in that area.

Glenn, I just read your message and I looked up the names in the newest Dupree book that I have. It is 750 pages and was put together by Rev. James William Dupree who lives in Americus, GA. It was just printed this fall. I did not find these names in there. I can tell you that I know that my GG grandfather had a brother named Arthur. But my GG grandfather was born in 1826. Arthur was not a common name with my family, though I know that there were at least 2 different James Duprees who named sons Arthur. I know there are Sinquefields in the family somewhere, but I want to say they were related to my Burdeshaws, not my Duprees. I go to Dothan every summer and look up more and more relatives. If I can help you out any next summer, I will be glad to do so. I know how frustrating those brick walls can be. If you will log onto Ancestry.com, you will find the postings of this cousin who put together this book. He has 40 years of Dupree research and perhaps he could at least steer you in the right direction. Good luck and let me know if I can help.
(I have seen Sinquefield graves in Dothan area cemeteries.)
My Duprees first settled in Ashford and then Dothan.

You may contact him at
bdupree31709@yahoo.com

He is the Rev. Bill Dupree
A very nice man. If he still has books, he will be glad to send you one. They are a great source of info for all of us Duprees.
Good luck. If I can be of further help, please let me know. Are you desceded from Duprees in the Houston/Henry Co. area of AL? If so, then we are more than likely cousins of one degree or another.
Debbie

Debbie, thanks so much....I was so excited last nite to see that there is another Dupree book and I am so anxious to find out all about it. Do appreciate your sending me the Rev's e-mail address...I will contact him right away.

Although I know that all of us Duprees are related, I really don't know anyone in Houston except have been contacted by some Thigpens in the past.

My ancestors are directly "off the boat" from France in 1700....the original Louis (Loys, Lewis, whatever) actually settled within 35 miles of my home here in Franklin, VA (the area called Low Ground Road new Emporia, VA....actually was in Isle of Wight County, Brunswick County, and then Greensville County, Va without ever moving) and I just found out in the last couple of years. They eventually migrated to NC and apparently my branch didn't get much further.....although all the "cousins" moved on.

Perhaps we can share info.

Thanks again, Linda
