Looking for information on a Susan (maiden name unknown) Tiffen. She was born ca 1789 in VA. In 1850, Susan was a widow and lived in Washington Co. AR with a family named Routh.

Appreciate any help.

Hello,

Do you have any information if the family had come form Alabama before Arkansas?

I looked through my database of Tiffin relatives (3,000+
) and can find 'no' Susan born around the late 1700 in VA.
Would you have any info on her children or any other relatives?
We know the Tiffin family was in and around VA back in those days and there were a good number of them that married and later moved. Some South toward AL, FL & MS and some moved up North toward Canada.
My branch moved up to Ohio where my Edward Tifin was named 1st governor of Ohio. Family moved down through AL then on to OK & TX.
I'll be glad to help if I can.

Floyd

You might want to take a look at the census I referred to in my original posting. The surname might not be Tiffin. What I thought was a "T" might be an "F." It it does not look like Tifen to you, let me know.

I looked at the 1850 census for Washington Co, AR . The Rousch family is the next door neighbor.
Susan is listed with a family named Kifen/Kifur.
Or at least that's what it looks like to me.
Is a Susan Tiffin related to you?
Give me some of your ancestors and maybe I can help connect you to the other Tiffins.

There were two or maybe more sets of Tiffin's that ened up in Arkansas. One set is from Henry Tiffin II
line that went from Virginia to Ohio to Alabama to
Arkansas (Some to Oklahoma) to Texas and NM. The other set, seems not directly related, or I can't find how they were related: ended up around Little Rock: James Madison Tiffin's line. If you follow them back,
they came from Virginia. That line is on RootsWeb
World Connect. Can't connect that line to the Virginia-Ohio Tiffin line yet, but they may connect to Henry Tiffin II or other Tiffin connection. Some of the Tiffins in Ont. Canada came directly from England. Most of the Tiffin- Tiffen folks came from northwest England, Cumberland, but some came from other parts of England or may have come from other English parts of the world. Good luck!

Floyd, thank you for offering to help but I have since determined Tiffiin is not the name I am researching. It is Fithian and it only looked like Tiffin. I am not related to Tiffin.
