There were several families in county Kerry with the surname EMPEROR, in the late 17700's and early 1800's. does anyone have any knowledge of any of these. Looking for Elizabeth Emporer.

Thanks

Jack,
Among the 675,000 Irish entering the US at New York between 1846-1851 are a few Emperors, among them Eliza who was on board the ship Constellation which embarked from Liverpool and arrived at NY on Oct 2, 1850.
Altho it's not said, I suspect your Elizabeth was living about 1800 rather than 1850. But I had to pass it on just in case it means something to you.
Best Regards,
Al O'Brien

My Emperor family is from Brosna, County Kerry, Ireland.

The four sons of John and Ellen Emperor immigrated to the US.

Thomas Emperor (1815 - 1896) married Mary Hogan
James Emperor (1824 - 1910) married Catherine Quinlan
Lawrence Emperor (1828 - 1865) married Mary Shehea
Cornelius Emperor (1831 - 1910) married Catherine

I haven't researched them in County Kerry but have found quite a lot about these four and there descendants.

I've had a look at the church records on irishgenealogy.ie and there are 106 records relating to Emperors. It appears to be more a Dingle/Castlemaine/Ballyferriter name i.e more common in the Gaeltacht. Do you know it's origins at all?

I don't know the origins but I'm very interested in finding them. My family said that our Emperors came from France to County Kerry, Ireland but when talking to an Irish cousin she said that Emperor was an Irish name and that the french connection was unlikely.

Hopefully someone will read this who knows some history about our Emperor Surname.

I don't have more information on the surname but I will state that our family lore also states that they were originally from France (possibly from Normandy) and then immigrated to Ireland .
