LIGGINS ALBERT "AL" LIGGINS, JR. (age 88) passed on April 17, 2012, at The Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio.
Devoted husband to the late Irene (Moshogianes) Liggins; father to Arlene Watkins (husband, Jim); grandfather to Theodore, Byron and Robin and great-grandfather to many.
Mr. Liggins resided on Columbia Ave. in the Glenville neighborhood.
Popular and long-time owner of The Hanna Lounge on Prospect and 18th St. and later Carnegie Ave.
Al's passion was his golf game. He played at numerous courses, including Firestone Country Club in Akron. He had the distinction of being one of the first persons of color to play at the then-segregated facility.
Al was also Tournament Director at many golf events, including The Sammy Davis Jr. Invitational. Golf legends Charlie Siffert, Pete Brown and Lee Elder were his personal friends. Al Liggins was a member of the Nomad Social Club and the Sixth City Golf Club. He was also a life member of the Cleveland NAACP.
Al leaves a legacy of kindness with numerous patrons, neighbors and friends. FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS ON FRIDAY, APRIL 20, 2012, FROM 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. AT THE WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 10913 SUPERIOR AVE., CLEVELAND, OH. Internment to be private.
