Hello Jab,

Versie Thurmond Sanders was born near Lexington, Mississippi in a place called Sunnymount in 1888 to the union of Alfred Thurmond and Betty Friar. Versie's Father Alfred was conceived as a result of the union between Jane, (his mother) a slave girl and her slave master "McMultry". Jane later married Noah Thurmond who adopted Alfred and gave him his family name. This was the origin of the Thurmond family. Jane and Noah had 9 other children. All of the Thurmond's were landowners and had their own homes. The inheritance of the this land and status was due in large part to the generosity of the slave master "McMultry" who was the natural fater of Alfred.
Betty Friar ws united in marriage to Alfred Thurmond around 1866, they produced 7 children

I know my dad is suppose to have already handled that for me and my sister. Were suppose to be staying in some elaborate hotel suite, (smile) but I really don't have all of the details. I know that I have a conference in Atlanta in July for a week, I need to get with my dad to discuss dates because I really don't know much about it.bb

Alfred Thurmond adopted son of Noah Thurmond had a son named Alfred Thurmond Jr who we called "Uncle Boot" Uncle Boot married Ruby Thurmond, daughter of William Thurmond and Pinkie Stepens Thurmond. Ruby was my father's sister. My dad's name was Curtis M Thurmond Sr. My 1st cousin Mildred Pauline Thurmond Ware lives in Lexington, MS. Several years ago I saw a family reunion book from her Dad's side of the family that straightened out how Alfred Sr. became a Thurmond from his mom marrying Noah Thurmond. My name is Particia Thurmond Robinson.

It's amazing what you can find when you do a little research. My side of the Thurmond's had the first family reunion in 1940. My grand dad William Thurmond married Pinkie Stephens and his brother Charles Thurmond married Pinkie Collier who was Pinkie Stephens aunt. This made their children double kin. I get a headache trying to explain it.

I do believe that there are 3 sets of Thurmond's in Holmes County (Lexington, Mississippi)

I forgot to say that Mildred Pauline Thurmond Ware is the daughter of Alfred "Boot" Thurmond Jr and Ruby Thurmond Thurmond and I know she has an Aunt Versie which makes her you all's cousin
