I have found out a bit about William Walthall and his descendants. The best source to date has been THE WALTHALL FAMILY by M.E. Walthall.

William Walthall, b. 1672 London, d. 1672 Henrico/Chesterfield Co., Va. Married ca. 1656 Anne Archer, daughter of George Archer of Henrico/Chesterfield Co. She outlived him and remarried after his death. William and Anne had four Children: William, Richard, Henry and Elizabeth.
A. William (b. ca. 1657) died unmarried. His will was recorded on 8/22/1715.
B. Richard (b. ca. 1660) married an unknown lady, had 10 children and died. His will was recorded in April of 1715). His children were Richard, Henry, Ann (m. William Vaughn), Dinah, Elizabeth (m. ?? Featherstone), Mabel, Catherine, Jarrett(or Garrett), Francis and Mary.
C. Henry (b. 12/11/1662 in Henrico Co., Va). Probably married ca. 1700 to Phoebe Walton and had a son, Thomas Walthall b. ca. 1700, married Frances ???). Phoebe died and Henry remarried to Mary ???. He was 52 years of age when his first child by Mary was born. His will was dated 4/1/1732. Mary's will was dated 1735. Henry and Mary had 5 children: William, Henry, Jeremiah, John, and Mary (who married William Bass, son of William and Mary Bass. Mary was William Bass's 2nd wife, his first being Martha Clay, daughter of Henry and Mary Clay who died 3/1/1745. William had 7 children by each marriage.).
D. Elizabeth (b. ca 1669) married 10/1/1689 to Hugh Ligon, son of Col. Thomas and mary Harris Ligon of Henrico Co., Va.

Mary Walthall, daughter of Henry, grandaughter of William, died 6/11/1791. William Bass, her husband, died 1/21, 1775.
Mary and William had 7 children:
a. Elizabeth Bass (b. 8/13/1748, m. 3/7/1776 to Joseph Friend. Had a son Joseph.)
b. Lucy Bass (b. 4/29/1750)
c. Archard Bass (b. 10/31/1752, m. 2/7/1778 to Charlotte Stone.)
d. Edward Bass (b. 8/15/1754, m. ???,
d. 4/26/1834. Had children Richard, Judith, Pamelia)
e. Martha Bass (b. 10/18/1756)
f. Joseph Bass (b. ca. 1758, may have m. 6/26/1787 Mary Robertson, daughter of George.)
g. Thomas Bass (b. abt 1760)

Hope this helps.

Goodness, a wealth of information! My cousin hired a researcher to do this line so she could get into Colonial Dames. She doesn't care otherwise. Haven't gotten the detailed research out of her yet. Will try again. Are these relations of yours? My line through Mary's marriage to William Bass. Would love to correspond. SingeliSS@AOL.com

Yes, I am descendended from William's son Henry Walthall.
Henry had a son, William, who married Mary Bass, daughter of William and Cicily Bass of Henrico.
William and Mary then had several children: William; Mary, who married Edward Archer, son of Field Archer; John; Sally; Archard.
Archard Walthall married Frances Netherland, daughter of Wade Netherland the younger and Ann Williamson of Cumberland County. Archard and Frances had several children, one of which was Ann. Ann Walthall married Edward Archer (who was the SON of Edward Archer and Mary Walthall - mentioned above). Ann and Edward Archer had a son, William Archard Archer. He was my great great grandfather.

If you're really interested in learning about family history I'd highly reccommend the M.E.Walthall book. I'd also reccommend the Walthall and the Bass surname boards here on FamilyHistory.com AND on genforum.genealogy.com. There's a lot of interesting information to be found there. (i.e. I learned that Nathaniel Bass, who brought the Bass family to Virginia, was one of the original Jamestown settlers.)

It's nice to meet you!

Thank you for all the information. Will do some research. Did a brief search of Jamestown, i.e. John Smith's list of settlers which I understand is partial, but I didn't see Nathaniel Bass. Where is that info? Love to correspond with cousins, even distant ones, so would love to hear from you. SingeliSS@AOL.com

My memory may have been a bit mistaken - I think I remember seeing Nathaniel Bass's name on a plaque in the visitors center at Jamestown that listed the settlers who survived the "starving time" winter. But my memory could be slightly in error.
I do know that Nathaniel came into the Colonies through Jamestown. And then moved out to lands in Henrico County. I can't remember solidly anything more about him. Would suggest reading reading old messages on the Bass surname board on both this FAMILYHISTORY.com and the GENFORUM web sites.
