I thought you find it interesting that I am a B(Betty)Croy working on the Croy's of Giles and Montgomery Co., VA. My husband is a great grandson of William Davidson Croy son of Adam Croy Jr., I thought maybe Adam Croy Jr. is the son of Adam Croy, Sr. But haven't found any proof. Adam Croy Sr. is the son of Jacob Croy his will is located in Giles Co., VA.

If I remember correct Henry Croy had a daughter that was married in Montgomery Co. VA. In one of the Kegley books it said, the name was written in German. According to a talk I had with Georgia Croy. There were two old Family Bibles, I believe she said, two old German Bibles. They were both donated to VA tech. They excepted one, which had the family information in it. It was destroy by fire at Virginia Tech years ago.

She also said, there was a plaque from Belgium passed down through the family and her grandmother Rosanna spoke French very fluently

My Croy research has been in Mercer Co., WV, Giles and Montgomery Co., VA.

William Croy was in the Civil War marrying in New Bedford, Mass. There were several stories about the reason for him being in Mass. I know on his marriage record, it stated he was born in Wheeling, VA in 1840. Either the family did some fast traveling back then, or he used that information putting him closer to the Dixie Line.

I know they lived in Mass a few years,in PA for a couple years. Supposedly there were relatives that lived close. But I have no proof. They lived in Blacksburg for a few years before ending up in Mercer Co., WV.

I have been working on the family tree since Oct. 1977, of which Croy is one of the many families I work on between doing medical research. I hope this will be of some help.

Dear Betty,

I just found your Croy query and since I've been working on my sister in laws Croys from Montgomery Co., VA I was wondering if you had found anything more on the parents of Adam Croy? Ours decends through his daughter Matilda who married William Nicholas Gray.

thanks!
Tanya

Hi,
Sorry, I don't have any pictures on Andrew and Sarah Croy's line. My husband comes down through Andrew's half-brother Adam. Adam married Elizabeth Smith on the 20th of September 1817 in Montgomery County. According to Rosanna Croy Dawson line, Elizabeth was a Echols. I have not found any thing to verify that information. I have 10 children listed for Adam and Elizabeth Croy, my husband is a descendant of their last child William D. Croy.

My GGGgrandfather, William D. Smith, Born Aug. 28, in Virginia. He married Elizabeth Croy. Daughter of Andrew Croy Sr. She had brothers Adam Jr, and Andrew. Elizabeth born Dec. 18, 1794, Blacksburg, Va. Died Sept. 29, 1844 in Fayette County, Va. Andrew married William's sister Sarah, and I don't know where the Echols came from unless it was a first marriage, but we believe that Elizabeth Gertrude Smith was also a sister of William D.
Charles Black Smith, the son of William D., married Lucinda Withrow Campbell of Montgomery County, Va. William, Charles, Lucinda and decendants died in and around Piketon, and Jasper in Pike County, Ohio. The William and Elizabeth marriage is confirmed in the bible of a Smith descendant. The bible is in Ohio.
