I am new at this and would appreciate any help. My great-great grandfather was Levi, born in Feb. 1825 and married to Cordelia Crissinger in Carroll Cty., Ohio on 9-9-1852. He died 2-5-1904. I believe his father was John Beckley, Sr., married to a Maryann. Birthdates- 1805. Children of John were Conrad, Mary and Elizabeth( Eliza). It is thought our family migrated from Penn. to Ohio. The line decends from John to Levi, to Robert James Beckley to Wilbur E. Beckley of Canton, Ohio and then my father-Byron O. Beckley. If you have inform. and would be kind enough to share it, I have included my email. Thankyou

Mary L. Beckley, dghtr of Levi

Hi - Not sure I can be of a whole lot of help,
but we're related through Mary L. Beckley, who was
my great-grandfather's step-mom. I just finished
going through the "Tombstone Inscriptions Family Records of
Carroll County" Book by Esther Weygandt Powell - and Levi and his
wife are both buried in Bethlehem Cemetery, Brown Twp, Carroll County.
They lived on a farm, right near my great-grandfather's mother's farm (Eve and John
Pottorf) just outside of New Harrisburg. They show up on the census records
that I have along with quite a few children. Not sure what all you're missing - but
I've found the Carroll County Historical Society to be an excellent resource. Happy to share what
little I have. I can be reached at Roush@Ridgecrest.CA.US and my cousin, Judy, also an avid
genealogist is at mdsjls@nauticom.net.

Hope to hear from you.

Linda

Beckleys in Carroll County

Linda Roush  (View posts) Posted: 10 Jun 2001 2:09PM GMT
J.D. Glad to hear from you - My great-grandfather's stepmother was Mary Beckley, daughter of Levi Beckley and Cordelia Crissinger. They lived on a farm just oustide of New Harrisburg. I haven't tried tracking back beyond Levi since it's a step-relationship but you need to get in touch with Lynn Roeca in Rockville, MD as she is a Beckley by blood. If you'll send me a regular e-mail (Roush@Ridgecrest.CA.US, I'll reply with a copy to her e-mail address as well. My cousin Judy did just get both Mary Beckley Rock (married Jacob Rock, Jr) death certificate and will, and there is a George Medola that is also has Beckley blood. Not sure if he has any descendants that are still alive - haven't gotten that far yet. I'll send you the files that I do have that connect with your Beckleys if you send me an e-mail. Thanks

Questions about Tombstone Inscriptions Carroll County

Linda Roush  (View posts) Posted: 10 Jun 2001 2:30PM GMT
J.D. Just sent my last reply and realized Ihadn'd answered yours questions about the book. It is called "Tombstone Inscriptions and Family Records of Carroll County, Ohio and was publsihed by Esther Weygandt Powell of Akron, Ohio in 1973. I purchased it from the Carroll County Historical Society in about 1980. The periods covered varies depending on the cemetery - and I know that some in the 1920's and up are not listed - but I have found it very helpful in finding family members hwo were bureid in Carroll County in the 1800's. I found a John Beckley and wife Mary buried in Bethlehem Cemetery, Malvern (page 18) in the same plot as Levi and Mary Beckley and an Eliza C. wife of "C.R.". There is also ? Mill, child of david and Phoebe. On page 19, there's another John Beckley with wife Mary and Elizabeth, wife of G.B. There is also a John H. and wife Rebecca on page 125 buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in UnionTownship. John H ( 1857 - 19443) and Rebecca (1861 - 1938). Hope that helps you some. Good hunting!

Hi Levi,
My great-great-great grandfather was Simpson Levi Beckley, who was born in Shelby County, Kentucky on April 11, 1813, his father/family moved from Louden County .Virginia. His grandfather was John Beckley who was killed in the Revolutionary War. Simpson Levi Beckley as a child moved with his family to Switzerland County, Indiana.

I was just reading a book written by my great-great grandmother, Mrs. W.L. Williams (daughter of Simpson Levi B.). She, along with her husband, Col. Williams founded the First Baptist Church of Dallas (Tx). I am from Dallas and know some of the stories about them. There is Beckley Avenue in Dallas named after Levi or John Beckley. She was also instrumental in the founding of Buchner's Baptist Home for children, an orphanige. In her book, she says that all Beckleys are related. I am a Smith.
