I am trying to research my great grandfather. His name is Roy Vernon Shadbolt. I have dates that I think might be both his birth and death date. Aug 1 1890-Jan 1966. I have been told he was born in Wisconsin probably Blanchardville. His parent died when he was a child and he was put into an orphanage. At 14 he ran away and joined the army sometime later. He married a woman named Mary Allen Blair while over seas and came back to settle in washington state where he passed away. I need help if anyone has any info that would be great

Hi, Roy's parents were Arthur Shadbolt and Lucy Elizabeth Oles. Lucy's parents were Jasper Oles and Eliza/Liza Betts.

Arthur and Lucy were married 25 Sep 1895, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. He was 28 and she was 18.

Lucy was born 13 July 1877, Cass County, Michigan and died 13 May 1906, LeSueur County, Minnesota.

Roy had a sister, Edna and also two brothers. One born 25 Apr 1903, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota and the other born 15 Dec 1904, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota.

Am not sure who Arthur's parents were yet. Will let you know if I find out.

Did you ever find out more about Roy Vernon Shadbolt? His DOB is 1 aug 1895 on his WWI draft card and 1 Aug 1890 on his WWII draft card. As near as I can find out, Arthur Shadbolt had 2 wives, the first Minnie, he abandoned to marry Lucy (?Roy's mother?)in 1895. I believe Roy and Mary were married in 1911 but have not confirmed that yet. If so, the 1895 birthdate is probably too young for him.
Another confusing fact is the birthdate on Roy's headstone: 1 Aug 1890; yet also on his headstone, it clearly says he fought in WWI which would have made him about 27 at the time.
Very frustrating!!! Any help is much appreciated!

I can answer to their marriage date. Roy and Mary were married in Brechin, Scotland 18 November 1918. Ancestry.com has a copy of Mary's passport application which shows their marriage date. You'll find her name indexed as "Mary Allan Shadpoldt."

Thank you!! I will look for her passport. I was able to find and download a copy of Roy and Mary's "application" (not sure what they officially call it in Scotland) of Marriage for November 18, 1918.
I am now trying to track down Roy's father Arthur. From what I have found so far, he appears to have had some issues with commitment . . .
