The Tithe Applotment books, searchable online, have only one Malby Stewart in Sligo in 1833 - probably your man, or his father.
He's not in the Griffiths Valuation in 1857, also searchable online, which ties in with his emigration.
Also check out irishroots.ie - there are Stewarts being born around his time. Stewart is probably a Protestant name which means you are in luck as records in these churches can go back many years before Catholic ones.
