My Great grandfather came from Norway, named Christian Holter. He married an English girl, Eliza Relf and eventually died in 1941. That's all I know about him. Rumour has it that he came from a country town near Oslo.
Holter seems to be an unusual name these days. Does anybody know any Holters?

Holter is not a very common name. However, my mother's maiden name was Holter. Her grandfather was Halvor Holter. He emigrated to the U.S.A.(New York) from Norway in 1879. Have no further info on his family in Norway except to a family reference to a cousin "Ingrid".

My father is Daniel William Holter. His father's name was William Holter and he came from Ashland, Wisconsin. He married Anna Rauch and they lived in Freeport, NY but separated. They also had a son, Norbert, who died in the Korean War. William died in Chicago in the early 1950's.

I am now trying to search records in Wisconsin. I know Anna was German but am not sure about William. My brother, Norbert has a Swedish bible I am going to look through and see if it gives any more information. I have no idea who my great-grandmother was.

My Holter family came from Akershus, not too far northeast of Oslo. I have a fair bit of family history information that I would be happy to share.

Have you any further infomraion about your Holter family? I have been researching a man called John Nordin from Sweden and found out that he was married in Ashland with Elizabeth Holter. She was earlier married to John Holter, born 1865 in Norway. William Marvin Holter was born in her first marriage. Elizabeth was born in Finland according to the census, but it seems that she spoke Swedish. I'm trying to find out what happened to John Nordin. I haven't found when he died and he was decleared dead in Sweden in the 60's. We didn't know that he was married on we found his marriage records on FamilySearch.
