Born in Ohio, my father Martin R. Caraballo (Jr.), doesn't know much about our ancestors. Most of our family is rooted in Yauco, PR. I would LOVE to know more about just the CARABALLO history, and also about my own branch of CARABALLOs'

i found your message about the possibility of caraballo w/out the a very interesting. i am told my ggg-grandpa, martin caraballo(for whom i am named) came from spain, possibly the canary islands, or the region of galicia in northeastern spain. i have not been able to get very far w/ his name, but now i shall try researching with the new spelling. supposedly he went to cuba, his son born in (havana?)cuba, went to mexico, and his grandson, born in mexico, to florida. thanks for the info, and if either of us finds anything, perhaps we can e-mail the other? martine

CARBALLO = a hand drawn sword
The picture is of an extended arm with a sword and next to it there is an Oak tree.
These people are from the North Western region of Spain,a province called Galicia and there they speak Gallego and in Gallego a Carballo is an Oak tree.....this is apparently the emblem which this family used in the Crusades.

I DO NOT KNOW IF THEY ARE RELATED, BUT MY GRANDFATHER, HIS FATHER, GRANDFATHER, AND G-GRANDFATHER WERE ALL NAMED MARTIN CARABALLO. BEING HIS ONLY GRANDCHILD AND A GIRL, I WAS NAMED MARTINE. MY GRANDFATHER'S DAD WAS BORN IN MEXICO,AND HIS DAD WAS A TRAVELING PHYSICIAN, BORN/TRAINED IN CUBA, HIS MOM BORN IN MEXICO. SHE WROTE A NICELY DETAILED ACCOUNT OF THEIR TRAVELS THROUGH MEXICO, TO CUBA, THEN FLORIDA. HIS GRANDFATHER MAY ALSO HAVE BEEN A PHYSICIAN, BORN IN CUBA, AND HIS G-GRANDFATHER CAME FROM CANARY ISLANDS, N-WESTERN SPAIN(REGION CALLED GALICIA). THIS LAST SENTENCE IS ONLY WHAT I WAS TOLD BY ELDERLY RELATIVES (NOW DECEASED)AS A CHILD. I HAVE AS MY ONLY RECORD OF THIS, A COPY OF THE ACCOUNT (8 PAGES TYPED COVERING 1883-1890)MY G-GRANDMOTHER WROTE, TRANSLATED INTO ENGLISH. IF YOU THINK WE MAY BE RELATED, I WILL BE HAPPY TO SEND YOU A COPY. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR SEARCH! SINCERELY, MARTY
